A decent space fighter, but it can get disorienting.

Starlancer was better than I expected. The graphics were excellent, especially for the ships. The gameplay was good, but a little complicated if you use the maneuvers to their fullest extent. The storyline was pretty good as well. You play a pilot in a newly formed volunteer squadron that doesn't get a lot of respect. You fight for the Alliance (good guys), who are on the losing end of a war with the Coalition (bad guys). As you complete missions, you earn credibility for your squadron, and help turn the tides of the war. The voice acting for the fellow pilots and other characters is very good, better than most video game voice acting.
One thing that I didn't like was how disorienting the game can be. A lot of the missions require you to defend a ship, and it's very easy to lose where that ship is, leaving it vulnerable. Also, when you destroy an enemy, the radar will lead you to another enemy, but it's not always the best one, usually it isn't. So you can be led out of the way, again leaving your allies vulnerable. This can get very frustrating.
Judging by the fact that nobody else has reviewed this game, i'm guessing it's fairly rare. But if you do find it, it's a cheap game that's worth picking up, especially if you like this type of game.
