Star Wars Rogus Squadron For N64.

Star Wars RS Was One Of The Most addictive N64 games i played and owned, In my old Melbourne House playing Star Wars RS was some of the most fun i've had in my life!!!!!

The first N64 Star Wars game, Shadows of the Empire (SotE), definitely gave the console a rough start when it came to adopting the greatest movie series of all time into well-working video-game. As a mixed bag of space-ship flying, third-person shooting and even racing, and though it was a rather enjoyable game, it got mediocre scores by the critics and was considered to be something of a half-failure. Rogue Squadron however, specialized in flying the space-ships, is a far more professionally made game than its ''prequel'', and is far better than SotE in just about every way. Here I will explain why this is the best Star Wars game on the N64. Gameplay : The control of the different ships is very good, feeling both authentic and responsive at the same time, and takes short time getting used to. There is a big difference in handling the fastest, lightest fighter, from controlling the heaviest, which is how it should be. When it comes to missions, they are well made and are rarely confusing. There are many different worlds that you have to visit in order to destroy the empire, with each one offering different challenges. In combat with enemies, you have to use different tactics and maneuvers when flying different ships, and the feeling of bringing down an enemy fighter is priceless. The only real problem is that the game moves rather slow, not completely capturing the speed of the movies. Rogue Squadron is still a beauty though, gameplay-wise. It takes some time finishing Rogue Squadron, as there are a great number of levels to beat. After that, there is also a lot of stuff to do, a medal and rank-system gives you a very good reason to keep playing it, trying to master every level. There are many different codes to try out as well, giving you access to things like secret ships and levels. One thing's for sure, this game is clearly not a short-lived one. And even when you have mastered it fully, it will keep you coming back for more, and more, and more.. Graphics : Let's get to the bad stuff first - there is some really nasty fogging in this game, used to try to disguise the massive amount of pop-ups that Rogue Squadron is featuring. And while it sometimes moves smoothly, there are other times when there are slowdowns a` plenty. But with that stuff out of the way, it must be said that the ships and other units you're seeing are very detailed, that the ground textures are very well made and that the worlds you are visiting are varied and good-looking. Great explosions as well. Overall Rogue Squadron is actually way above average in the graphics department (by N64 standards). Sound : The sounds of the different fighters and other units are very much like it was in the movies, while the real speech in here is of good quality. The music is very electronic, because of the limited sound-system of the console and that can be a real down-point if you want the music as close to the movies as possible. However, there is a huge number of different tunes available and many of them are very good, the kind that gives you a smile on your face. Great stuff all in all. The story starts out simple and uninteresting, but as you progress, it starts coming into its own, as new characters are introduced and you start to care about them. It is all very well made, moved along by some excellent cut-scenes that show you more of the different team-members' personality and tell of important events. This is a story that works well, that's for sure. Even though you might be able to see most of what the game has got in a rental (if you're a hardcore gamer, mind), it is just not the same thing as owning it. I would clearly recommend you to buy it, even if you're not usually such a big fan of Star Wars. A game's quality is not decided by its licence, and as a game, not a Star Wars product, Rogue Squadron is an excellent piece of software, and in several ways better than its Gamecube sequel Rogue Leader. Get it now!
