Great game. Terrible AI.

Let's get right down to it - this game's biggest flaw is the very thing that it has been acclaimed for: the squad AI.

There's one thing that bakes my biscuit in every FPS game where you fight alongside friendly units - people walking into my line of fire.

This happened a lot in Halo 2. I'd be tracking a grunt through the scope of my battle rifle, then just as I press the trigger, a marine decides to walk in front of me.
So then not only does his head get blown off, but the other marines start telling me to "hey, watch your aim" etc.

I'm sorry to say, this problem is much, much worse in Repblic Commando.
Yeah, so you can assign squad members to various positions of cover, or to heal themsevles, slice a console, breach a door etc. Great.
But what happens when they come up against some bad guys in a corridor?
Do they hold their positions and lay down fire? No,
Do they find some cover? No.
Do they get out of the way and let me take them down? No.

Instead, they just move from left to right, not facing the enemy, or even firing at them. Sometimes they'll expertly execute this maneuver by crouch-walking.
This has the effect of blocking the corridor, so I can't get past my own squad mates. And I can't shoot the bad guys without first shooting down my own squad. Arrggg!!!

Aside from that, the game is very good fun.
You have to get past the fact that only the main player appears to be a clone (the others sound nothing like Jango Fett, so how are they clones?).
The story line is fun and engaging, the cutscenes are good, and overall I was left wanting more when the compaign (suddenly) ended.
Would like to see a sequel, but would like to see much, much better friendly unit AI.
