Star Wars Battlefront II is the greatest Star Wars game to date

User Rating: 8 | Star Wars Battlefront II PS4

Star Wars Battlefront II is the greatest Star Wars game to date. The game has a very in-depth story campaign along with a free DLC subtitled Resurrection. The game features various online play modes. The graphics are very rich with realistic CG. It feels like you are watching a movie.

The single player campaign centers around the story of Iden Versio. A female Imperial soldier fighting against the rebels. The story starts during the Battle of Endor (Episode 6 Return of the Jedi). However, later in the game, Iden and her companion realized that working for the Galactic Empire for years was a bad choice after seeing their tyranny, and evil deeds so they switched sides and joined the Rebel Alliance. The acting is very realistic. The plot is really driven making you emotionally attached to it. The story talks about hope, redemption, and sacrifice so others shall live.

Throughout the single player campaign, you get to play different characters, although you play as Iden through most of the campaign, you also get to play Luke Skywalker, Princess Leia Organa, Lando Calrissian and Han Solo. The gameplay features, stealth and stealth attacks to avoid open combat which can be an overwhelming task. Also, you can switch from first person to third person much like several past Star Wars games. If your character gets hit multiple times you can hide in a safer place from combat and your health meter regenerates. There is really no need for power ups or health potions. Every Star Wars character has their unique abilities, such as Iden can use her trusty droid to open crates and unlock various computer codes, and in combat her droid can shock foes to death to help Iden take out multiple enemies. There are many aerial type missions as well, which I find the most fun part of this Star Wars game. You get to fly an Imperial TIE ship, a Bespin speeder, a rogue starfighter ship, and the Millennium Falcon. Take to the skies and get into intense dog-fighting. The only flaw in this game is mastering the proper controls for the aerial missions. At most times, you don’t realize you are flying upside down the whole way while dodging laser bolts and shooting down enemy ships. The challenging part in getting used to flying ships in this game while the controls can be tight while performing turns and fancy barrel rolls.

The disappointment in the single-player campaign is that the game is short, although there is no denying that its story driven plot, its superb acting, and its challenging gameplay can tug at your heartstrings. Battlefront II’s expansion single-player campaign subtitled Resurrection takes place over 20 years after the galactic conflict between the New Republic and the Empire, just before the events of Episode 7 The Force Awakens. You get to play Iden Versio again, and she has a young teenage daughter as they fight against the budding First Order. Once Iden learned that her long-time companion and husband was killed by an old enemy Hask (who was a general of the Empire now joined the First Order), she wanted to seek revenge in the death of her beloved husband. The widowed Iden for a long-time declined to join the Resistance, but finally decided to join in the end.

Star Wars Battlefront II is a huge game featuring the single-player campaign and various online play modes which can never get tired of playing the game. It’s a unique game that has a variety of fun gameplay for this gaming era combining, gunplay, lightsaber combat and aerial dogfighting. A recommended purchase.
