Spiral Knights is surprisingly good for a f2p game, and even with a lack of level system, seems to feel deep.

When I first started playing Spiral Knights it was a typical what the hell should I do today kinda day. I was bored, and I wanted to try something new, not knowing what to expect and not expecting much I saw clicked on an add for Spiral Knights, went to the website, then got the game on Steam. I must say I was blown away. The game is a cartoonish dungeon crawler that features I believe 4 player co-op. Sounds typical, and in a lot of ways it is but damn is it fun. So far I have been setting my parties to private and playing alone because if you don't and you don't have friends to play with, you get to play with random people. The game features dungeons that have a variety of enemies based on themes, and you go through these dungeons collecting heat, crowns, materials, and tokens. Heat levels your items, so rather than having a traditional leveling system, you level up your best equipment and try to buy new equipment with crowns. This is what interests me the most, because the equipment you buy with the crowns has stars the represent their tier, these tiers arn't only important for representing how good your equipment is, but also you can advanced to the next tier so you can enter tier 2 dungeons easiest by buying or creating tier 2 equipment with your materials. This is where the materials come in, you buy recepies and create weapons by using up your materials. The good thing is, if you don't have all the materials you need, you can buy them with the tokens you collect in dungeons, or at the auction house where people playing the game can buy or sell weapons, armor, or materials that are unbound to their characters. Talking about the tokens more, the reason that this alternate form of currency is there, is that you can only buy certain things with certain tokens, so if you have 10 forge sparks, you can not buy something that costs 10 grim sparks, unless you have those 10 grim sparks also. Anyway so although this game has a lot of great features there is one thing that will limit your fun if you play solo, this is the energy system. Energy is a form of well well energy, in other words, energy is used through everything you do in the game. You a bit more than 100 energy every day, and it replenishes in real time, you use it to use elevators, while making equipment, you use it for everything. So although the game has a lot of features, you can be limited if you play alone, I'm not sure if you can have a friend buy the elevators on co-op but if that is the case, then co -op is definitely the better mode to play. In conclusion, Spiral Knights, although simple, has a lot of great features that are just, well put together. It looks great and can play on almost any computer. If you want to kill a few hours a day, and have fun doing it, check out this game, I highly recommend it. An 8.5 out of 10.

P.S. Gamespot got gamrReview's score wrong, I checked out the site to see what they had to say about the game, and they actually rated it an 8.0 8.0 out of 10. This makes the critic average an 8.3 not a 7.0, I'm just saying so that no one criticizes my review without playing the game because of what critics say, because that would be dumb and the critics actually agree with me anyway. http://gamrreview.vgchartz.com/review/51238/spiral-knights/
