My personal favorite fighting game for the PS3

User Rating: 8 | SoulCalibur IV PS3
Soulcalibur 4 is by far my favorite fighting game on the current generation of consoles. Yes, it's an older game, so there aren't any trophies to speak of, but all else aside it really is a fun game. Growing up, Mortal Kombat was my only real exposure to the fighting genre of gaming, but I remember going to stores and playing the original Soulcalibur for Dreamcast and having a great time. This is the first game of the series that I have been able to own, and with the disappointing MK vs DC game I tried, I am happy to say that I really enjoy this game.

GAMEPLAY - For me, fighting games need to have more than just the one-on-one fights, and even online fighting can be kind of lame after awhile. This game has a nice mixture of the traditional fighting modes along with some other modes such as story mode that make this game more interesting. What's more is that there are a ton of unlockables to improve just about any character, and the character maker, although somewhat limited, is a nice feature. If you're like me and get bored with these kinds of games after a couple hours or so due to there not being enough to do, I urge you to try this. There is a lot to keep you busy and interested in this game. - 9/10

STORY - When you play story mode you'll get some background on the characters you play as, but it doesn't go much more in depth than any other fighting game you'll play. Fans of the series will see some familiar faces, however, along with some new characters that are just as fun to play as. - 7/10

GRAPHICS - I like the graphics on this game, despite the fact that it is a couple years old now. One thing that has always drawn me to the Soulcalibur games is its appearance, and this game does not disappoint. It's not necessarily that the graphics are amazing, but the presentation really sucks you in. - 8/10

SOUND - I do tend to like the music here, even though the fact that it's on sale on the PSN is ridiculous...but no matter. I really don't have any major complaints on the voice-acting, but the music here is really top-notch and epic. - 8.5/10

LENGTH/REPLAY VALUE - This has always been the category that has turned me off from fighting games. It just seems like there's always that glass ceiling where you get to a certain point where you've mastered the game for the most part, and there isn't much left to do. This game is definitely not like that. As I said before, there is a lot to do here aside from the regular arcade mode. Nothing you do in this game is necessarily lengthy, but I find a lot of the characters fun to play, and seeing each of their stories makes this game worth playing through a lot. - 8/10

BOTTOM LINE - With how cheap this game is and how much fun it is, there is no reason you shouldn't own this if you're a fan of this genre of gaming. I've really only been a fan of this and the MK series, but now that MK is pretty much over and done with, I'm happy to say that this series is still going strong. I've been having a lot of fun with this game, and with as much as there is to purchase in this game, I don't think I'll be getting done with anytime soon. I highly recommend trying this game out, because even though it feels a lot like its predecessors, that isn't a bad thing by any means. - 8/10
