The very first Sonic the Hedgehog game ever made is still as good as it was years ago! It was created to rival Mario, and it was extremely successful. Let's take a look at the blue blur's first outing.

If you think this is just another Super Mario remake, think again! It does keep lots of the regular platforming elements, but expands on much more of it. Sonic the Hedgehog is about SPEED. it is a much faster game than Super Mario Bros., and with all the extra gimmicks included in every action-packed stage, (loops, tunnels, springs, bumpers, etc...) it makes a very unique game. Rings are also the new coins, but this time, if you get hit, you lose all your rings! So as long as you have one ring, you're okay! Items are littered about the stages, so keep an eye out for secret passages, and stages are also split up differently. instead of having "World 1-1 and World 1-2", every "Zone" has 3 "acts". Gameplay is speedy and fun, and its fun to play over and over again. Oh! Almost forgot the Special Stages! make it to the end of the level with 50 or more rings, and jump into the giant ring at the end to teleport to the special stage, where you have the chance to collect one of six "Chaos Emeralds". Collect them all to view the true ending! This game doesn't have a save function, but the game is short and simple, so you don't need one. But don't underestimate it! it's not an easy game!

The 16-Bit Genesis graphics are truly beautiful. The Vibrant colors and dazzling backgrounds make this game fun to just look at as well as play.

The music this game has is great and very catchy, yet not the best in the series. The sound effects are legendary, as they still used to this day! (not the 16-Bit versions, mind you, but they still sound the same)

This game is now sold on MANY different consoles, and you can one up for almost any console for a cheap price. Try to get it in a compilation, as buying it directly from the Wii Shop Channel, Xbox Live marketplace, or the PlayStation Store, might not be the cheapest way. But don't let that stop you! I recommend this game to anyone who likes platformers, or video games in total.
