Sonic is back!

User Rating: 9 | Sonic the Hedgehog 4: Episode I X360
Sega hasn't been doing too good lately cough-Sonic 06-cough. Now they promise a return to the classics. So then, is it worthy of the 4?

Before the review, here's a bit about my history with Sonic. I own almost all of the modern Sonic games and I mainly enjoyed them, although Sonic 06 was just horrific. I liked the classics, but I found them a bit too challenging.

Gameplay:8/10
Very fun. The homing attack is a nice addition. You rarely have to use it, but it's more fun when you use it. You need to decide whether to use it or go the classic way many times because the homing attack will sometimes slow you down. The only thing that brings down the gameplay is, you guessed it, the physics. If you run up a wall and press down while on the wall, you will duck and just stand on the wall. It's short, but I replay often.

Sound:7/10
The sound effects are all classic, which is a good thing. However, the music is not only unmemorable, but also cheasy.

Level Design:8/10
The level design is very good. Only gripe here is that all zones are recycled. It has some parts that are similar to the games of the past, such as the water act, the running on gears mechanic that is similar to a part of Sonic 2, and all the bosses. However there are also original things such as the rolling barrels, the torch, and the twists to the boss attack patterns.

Graphics:9/10
The graphics are very good. They're bright and colorful and give the game a fun appeal.

Overall:9/10
This game is very good. I would recommend this to any fan of Sonic. And yes it is worthy of the 4.
