The story has two sides. Sonic's side includes sonic, tails, and knuckles witnessing a theft. The person committing the crime is Jet the hawk(the green bird on the cover), and he's made off with a chaos emerald! After that, sonic and the gang enter the world grand prix of air boarding to uncover what jet is up to and to collect the rest of the chaos emeralds. Jet's side of the story involves Jet trying to prove that he's the fastest air boarder and attempting to discover the ancient treasure left by a past advanced civilization. Both stories can be very humorous at times too.
The gameplay is really fun, seeing as how you're riding air boards through huge environments at high speeds trying to take first place! Extreme? Yes. You start the races by running towards the starting gate and taking off. If you want simple controls, all you have to do is cruise through the courses. If you want more fun, you can grind with speed characters, fly off ramps with flight characters, or bash through obstacles with power characters, all of which provide shortcuts(I prefer the speed characters myself). You can take tight turns with R, get a speed boost with B, and hold A before a ramp, then let it go to perform tricks that you control. The interesting thing is that you have to keep an eye on your air meter, which keeps you moving. It's easy to get air back, however, because you can do tricks, break capsules, or just take a quick pit stop to aquire more.
The environments are very well done, looking fresh and crisp in the graphics department. The music is good, and the visuals are excellent. There is even a boss battle to deal with! There is plenty of variety, from grand prix racing, to free ride, to battle, to mission mode, to using rings you've collected to buy extra gear.
Overall, this is a great game that anyone could enjoy. I recommend this game to everyone. Enjoy!
