I got kind of bored after a while.

Before you start reading this, you must know that I'm biased against 3rd person shooters. I've only liked Ghost Recon and Conflict: Desert Storm. Also, I haven't played SOCOM online, so I can't say how good that is.

I've never actually played any of the SOCOM: US Navy Seal franchise, so after my friend told me how great it was, I decided to try my hand at it. It wasn't what I expected at all. After seeing a commercial for SOCOM III, I expected an all out, shoot everyone, screw you shooter. It turns out to be more sneak-oriented, at least as long as you plan on finishing all of the secondary objectives.

You take control of two teams, each consisting of two Navy Seals. Your character is Kahuna, which is a pretty badass codename after you get used to it. You partner up with Boomer, who starts to get really annoying when he follows you around and shoots people even if you give him the Hold Fire command. There's no way to make Boomer stay where he's at. That's right, he follows you around like your dog. So, if you try to knife somebody from behind, make it quick or else your friend might steal your kill.

However, it's not all bad having a team. I mean, you can send the other two person team wherever you want on the map. For example, you can have them cover an entrance to a building while you walk in and take the bad guys out, and if any of them try to run, your team won't let them walk five steps out the door.

And that's pretty much how each mission pans out also. All the missions are the same. You'll usually start out breaking communications, and then go collect intel, you might blow something up, and then make sure enemies don't escape. And, for some reason, making sure enemies don't escape is a primary objective. Yes, it's critical, but if that part is failed, then the next mission should just be harder by making the bad guys automatically aware that your team is in the vicinity.

However, you can make a mission fun, if you want to blow through every door and just destroy everyone. I like to finish every objective, and that gets very frustrating because of all the stealth-oriented secondary objectives. I'll find myself having to retry a mission over and over again just to get it right, and it just isn't fun after a little while. The game is only 10 to 15 dollars right now but, quite frankly, if I want to play a stealth-action game, I'll go play Splinter Cell.
