I wonder if this game would have succeeded if it didn't have amazing graphics

Before I begin I gotta confess to something: I played this game for the first time in 2011, a long time after playing all the new school platformers like jak 2 and ratchet and clank, so maybe that's the reason this game didn't really get me excited...
Alright, so the first thing you notice when you play this game is the graphics, they're amazing, it feels like you're in an old disney movie, sly's moves look really good and the environments are very creative, it kind of felt like Jazz Jack Rabbit 2 for some reason, even though the two games are completely different, but I guess that's a good thing because Jazz 2 is an awesome game, never mind that now, back to sly:
One thing I didn't like about this game is the camera, you can move it around sly but only from the sides, like in sonic adventure, and also the control over the camera is inverted and there's no way of changing it.
This game was released in 2002 and most games at that time had a crappy camera so I'll forgive the developers, but if I ever play sly 2 and see that they didn't change it I'll be disappointed.
Gameplay: most of the game is very fun, I loved all the sneaking around, all stealth games are always so serious and dark, this was a refreshing take on the genre.
The only parts that aren't fun are the mini games that you are forced to play, most of them are boring as hell and sometimes they can get pretty difficult (unlike the actual game, we'll get to that) and you'll find yourself retrying something that makes you want to cry of boredom just so you can get on with the actual game.
Another problem with the gameplay is with the actual game being too easy, you can beat most bosses on your first try and there aren't any "falling platforms" that require you to be fast and accurate with your moves, I guess the developers wanted this game to appeal to kids so they made it really easy.
The problem with a game that's too easy is that it gets boring after a while, but this game won't get boring because...
It's one of the shortest games I've ever played, beating this game took me two days of casual play.
Overall this is a good game to play on a boring weekend, it has it's good moments but it didn't make me want to get sly 2.
Again, maybe it's all because I'm used to challenging action-platforming games like jak 2 and 3.
