Silent Hill Origins is the 1st game I played in the series, satisfactory and good impression but not great.

As I said SHO is the first game I played in the SH series, I would definetly play another SH game but this game wasnt really the best survival horror I played.

Gameplay:You play as Travis Grady, a lonely trucker who unfortunately is brought to the small town of Silent Hill by a hooded figure jumping out on the road, forcing him to stop, a small girl appears and Travis decides to follow her into the town only to find he can't get out until he helps the little girl. Travis is haunted by his childhood memories of his mother and father and other things such as fantasies and loneliness and such but the story revolves aroundTravis having flashbacks and seemingly questioning his sanity with his past. You play in 3rd person view with somewhat quirky controls(may be unresponsive ie: You have to sometimes press buttons twice or hold them for a second to run or bring up the map or just to pick up an item). The game revolves around you killing monsters that get in your way(you can also easily skip combat by just running away from the enemy which is usually the best way to go) and solving puzzle, some puzzles are difficult some are fairly straight forward but are challenging enough that once you complete them you do feel pretty proud of yourself. The monsters are pretty cool and creative as they resemble inner feeling that Travis has, for say the Carrion(which looks somewhat like an animal with its upper body dragging on the ground) enemy symbolizes the animals Travis has killed on the road being a trucker and obviously feel remorse for it and is haunted by it, the bosses are huge and cool and there are a decent variety of monsters. One knockback with the game is the lack of punch by the weapons, you can go through a full clip of ammo on an enemy and they may still be running after you, even the stronger weapons like the shotgun are totally lame, which apparently the game centers around you using melee weapons most of the time(there are melee weapons everywhere such as lead pipes, drip stands wrenches and 1 time use weapons like tvs and typewriters, the pipes, etc break after a few kills, the 1 time weapons are powerful but you only use one time, so basically you will be using your fists for most combat until you face bigger tougher enemies) but this is where the game gets challenging since monsters can easily corner you and Travis does die fairly quickly(view your health in the inventory menu). Another bad thing about the game is it is VERY short, you can beat the game in a couple of hours is you really know what your doing(its an accolade and you get special items once you beat the game for whatever accolade you complete). The story line really did suck me into the game but it would be much better with subplots and longer gameplay. Its also the first game in the series you can touch mirrors to go to the otherworld(bloody nightmarish place that is the same exact place that you are in but only in a hellish version of it) and is used to complete puzzles and levels and items, etc.

Graphics:The graphics are pretty good, not great but good. Bloody walls and gore everywhere like any other survival horror game.

Sound:Probably the best part of the game, the sound effects and sound tracks fit the game perfectly and make it downright creepy. You can always tell if theres a monster near you with a growl if they see you or if they dont and they are just wandering around you hear kind of a strange moaning or heavy breathing or weezing sound, its really creepy also you can use a radio and the screen will appear staticy when an enemy is closeby.. The weapons sound like the should.

Replay value:I played through it once and got 4 accolades, there were plenty more to achieve but I personally didnt find the motivation to give the game a second go.

Overall:I recommend playing this game first if you are new to the series then playing them in order. Overall it is a decent game but I would rent it and beat it while you are renting it instead of buying it mainly because of the short length.
