This game is a TOTAL LETDOWN .. Don't waste your $$.
There's no direction in the game as to where to go next; It's like a sandbox silent hill game where if you go the wrong way you can find a sidequest but I found myself lost when I arrived at silent hil fighting stupid enemies which brings my to my biggest complaint....
The enemies look horrible; like not scary.. just plain dull and boring. Also they take way to long to kill. It doesn't matter what weapon I had equppied (axe, wrench, board, ect.) it still took countless blows to kill just one enemy. It would be one thing if you the combat was fun but it isnt. You can the square button that attacks and the triangle button that blocks. But if you block you still take damage and get staggered anyway so there's no point in blocking. How about just run away like in previous silent hill games.. nah these new enemies can run and if your running faster they can scream causeing you to freeze in your path until they catch up. Combat is the most frustrating thing in this game.
Later I fought some creature that kept jumping to the ceiling. Everytime it landed I'de strike it a couple times or throw something at it. This one battle literally lasted about 10 minutes. I was so bored by the time I killed him I never wanted to play the game again.
However I decided to give it one more shot; I finished that area and arrived at silent hill where I found a house that I entered. In this house was nothing really important I heard someone crying and I just thought to myself been there done that. Then I encountered the next type of enemy that would cause me to never want to play the game again. These enemies were ghosts and there were about 3-4 of them. Also I couldn't see a damn thing. Not only could I not see the ghosts but I couldn't even see where I was cause the room I was in was completly dark and the flashlight I had hardly worked. So I took out my gun and killed 2 of them somehow. After that the 3rd one killed me cause I ran out of ammo. Then I put the controller down and told myself to write this review so that I could warn anyone who wants to play this game NOT TO BUY THIS GAME.
Just for the record I have no problem with difficult battles I have finished both Demon Souls and Darks Souls; 2 of the most challenging games out there and they are my favorite games. Silent Hill Downpour's Combat is boring, stale, and brings no excitement to the table. The story lacks, the graphics lack, and the level designs are boring. This game sucks.
