Not as classic or revolutionary as the first two but still a staple in the series

User Rating: 8.5 | Silent Hill 3 PS2
Silent Hill 3 brings a little bit different feeling to the series, it goes for a more tangible storyline that is easier to understand, and also relates to the first game. It also limits the ammo a little more than 2, gives you more space to explore, has a much more diverse setting, gives you much more melee weapons, and has stamina now. It is similar to the first two in sense that the combat system is almost the same, you heal up the same way, and exploration is generally the same where you need to find keys and items to progress with occasional puzzles thrown in. The controls feel a slight tighter than the previous Silent Hills and the introduction to stamina, as well as the solid unlockables and more coherent storyline make this game have its advantages. Of course, there are challenging difficulties that keep getting harder once you beat the game on hard. The enemy variety isn't too generic and feels natural to the series. But it is very similar to 2 in gameplay with a few slight changes, as well as camera feeling a little smoother.

The graphics are pretty far ahead of the 2nd and some of the best I've seen of PS2. The sound is also great with much improved voice acting and awesome effects.

The replay is alright as you can play on higher difficulties and unlock some cool weapons/attacks. But there aren't really any extra modes, but you can get alternative endings. Replay is about the same as the first two, and can be interesting with a few unlockables. So storywise the game might be as deep as the other Silent Hills, but overall this game feels smoother and has its scarier moments.
