Sci-fi RPG meshed with side-scrolling shooter, this game is worth the playtime.

User Rating: 7.3 | Sigma Star Saga GBA
Sigma Star Saga is an action RPG with an interesting take on the alien invasion theme that's not quite predictable, but still entertaining. The main interest of the game comes not from it's story, but the gameplay. While wandering around the various locations, you'll be dispatching the local inhabitants with you're weapons. Random encounters also occur in the form of side-scrolling shooters in random alien vessels. Each ship has it's strengths and weaknesses and all the experience you gain goes towards your piloting. The weapons you've set for a ship and your level are transferred to whatever it is you're flying and, of course, experience is gained from the baddies you blast. Boss encounters occur with typical gradius-style levels that are well designed, but can be very difficult.

The customizations for your ship are very numerous, keeping things fresh, and is very reminiscent of gradius. It's toned down a bit, simply revolving around the type of shot you fire, it's orientation, and what it does upon impact.

The music is mediocre, but fits the game. There are also voice-effects that are awful to hear. The graphics are quite good for the shooting, but wandering around in your parasite-armor, you and the world around you look sub-par. Like an entirely different game and more bright and childish as opposed to something more serious to match the plot.
