Since I remember, Atlus try to rmerge Anime and RPG through thr game they make. Persona is one of the most successful of those. Along the Shin Migami Tensei game series. Having to know these facts breaks my heart now that I have experienced Devil Survivor.

I love Atlus, turn-based RPG (especially Persona), Anime and vanquishing demon... But what could possibly gone wrong?

Devil Summoner put you on a story of a young teenager and other 2 companions when they received a modified COMP's (DS). The COMP's have a creepy Laplace system that seems to predict the future. Suddenly, COMP's summoned demon amidst them when they tried to hacked it and discovered that they are not helpless against the vicious demons. Demons defeated and everything seems to be alright... then it's not.The city is in total Lockdown and everybody have number on their heads.. And the creepiness continues... or not.

Story:
DS story is pretty immersive, showing the harsh reality what will happen if a lockdown will happen in Tokyo and what will be the changes in personality to those to be involved. And like all of those existing RPG, the lockdown will be the least of their worries for it will be revealed that the world balance will be on their hands. Cliche...

The Gameplay:
If you know FF Tactics GBA, it is pretty close to that, the difference was in each represented character, 2 demons are at his side that will only reveal themselves when the battle starts. If the battle is initiated, the perspective will then change to... how can I describe it... more like of a Dragonquest III GBC.

Another tweak in the game is the Bidding System. In order to have new Demons at your side, you have to buy them though bidding, using the cash you earn after each battle. You can also merge your demons Persona Style. Some of the monsters Arts present in DS are imported from P3.

The Graphics:
Anime influence is ever present in this game. Meaning, never ask for a 3D. Even the monsters (except for the tactics gameplay) are all just art drawings, no casting animation what so ever (much like early dragon quest games).

Overall:
Early part of the game is pretty good, as the story progress it is really good. But I don't like their presentation... Even though it's flashy and anime influence is there... It will become pretty tiring or sometime frustrating to see that your monsters are just drawings when they do battle. If this game was released in earlier years, I can eventually can forgive this. An example is Crono Trigger, no 3d involved and yet it is good, and I'm not even talking about the remake of CT.

The Good:
The Bidding System was a nice quirk to the game. Intriguing and creepy storyline is a nice addition that you don't see everyday. not to mention the anime art.
The Bad:
The monster are just drawings and doesn't move (makes me want to burn them) and make the gem pretty tiring considering the year it was made and released. And I will stand that it is not a 9 but a 7.
