I have to say that this was one of the best games I have ever played. I'm a crime and investigation buff, and this was so perfect! You play the role of both Sherlock Holmes and Watson walking around London in 1888. At times you are Sherlock and other's Watson. The game plays out almost identical to the case files of the real Jack the Ripper. The bodies that you must investigate after the murders are lying anatomically correct to the real murder victims. The names of people involved in the case are unchanged in the game. You will know much more about the Jack the Ripper case after completing this game. The buildings in the game are comparable to London during that time, and the buildings that were involved in the actual case/murders are replicated in this game. The controls are fantastic. You have the option of playing 1st or 3rd person, with I preferring 1st. 3rd person gameplay isn't as smooth and makes it a bit difficult to navigate around other characters, but 1st person is fantastic! You can move with ease and quickly. Conversation doesn't inhibit your movement nor does clicking and checking things out. It's your basic point and click game. Some may find that the objects required to go forth in the game are too easy to come by, but that didn't bother me a bit. The puzzles were realistic and logical. I did have two bug glitches, but thanks to someone who saved every beginning and end of puzzles (plus some) to files at www.nicouzouf.com under Jacktheripper I was able to pick up where the bug's stopped me. The first bug was located during a gas leak puzzle, and basically it wouldn't let me finish the puzzle. I would have swore I was doing something wrong if I hadn't surfed around to see if it was a bug. The second was during a time of putting in body parts on a makeshift victim. The game wouldn't allow me to complete it. I didn't find any patches for these bugs so the above website saved me when it came to being able to start after the puzzle. This game immersed me to no end, and I could barely stop playing it from the time I started it (This is normally not an issue for me).
As a gamer (primarily adventure gamer) for the last 23 years, this game is definitely in my top 5! I recommend it to everyone who loves a good adventure as a must play. Go out and buy this game! You will not regret it! The Adventure Company has done it again! Bravo!
