Sega disgraces Samurai Jack in so many ways that its no wonder its an easy game to pass up (contains spoilers)

Sega brings us Samurai Jack - a game where, as you can guess, you play as Samurai Jack on his never ending quest to find a time portal to go back to the past and defeat Aku, the self proclaimed "shape shifting master", so he doesn't ever affect the future..

This title is a simple beat-em-up platform. You run around collecting items, upgrading your sword, jumping around, pulling levers, and slicing up Aku's seemingly pathetic robotic minions with a limited amount of combos. You can shoot arrows, throw ninja stars, and block/smack back projectile attacks that enemies shoot at you... which I guess was cool.

The sound effects and music in Samurai Jack are both pretty decent - the sound of swords clashing and robots exploding is very satisfying - but what made me sad was the music just keeps repeating like a techno song...over and over and over again. I would like to point out that Phil LaMarr and the rest of the cast did a beautiful job doing the voice overs for thier respective characters.

Sadly, unlike the above mentioned, the graphics are a downer. Its a basic blocky 3D engine mixed with very limited Cel Shading on water and fire (little things like that). In game, the character models look half way decent, but in the movie sequences its an eyesore. Most notably are...hah, Jack & The Scotts Man. Jack looks terrible, and appears to be wearing eye liner.. and the Scotts Man, ergh. He really looks like a fuzzy blob taken straight from the N64.

What is really dissapointing for me was not how repetitive this game was (I mean, yeah that was bad..) but how incredible EASY everything, including the final fight with Aku, was. I flew through this game with barley any trouble (except the jumping sequences.. so annoying), and the main fights - for example with Aku or even the Scotts Man in the arena - were patheticly easy. I just ran up and kept slashing and they were defeated in a matter of minutes.

Also, the ending was TERRIBLE, made little sense, and really should have been re-done - Aku is defeated but tricks Jack and causes a hole to open underneath the Samurai's feet, Jack falls, is saved by the Scotts Man in a plane of some sort, and they fly away? How come Jack didnt go back and finish the deed!? Whatever.

To finish this review, I'm gonna say that Sega really should have just scrapped this idea, and reworked the whole game from the ground up. As for the player, I reccomend that you rent it if you are determined to play it. Dont be like me and buy it.
