Yes, I've been there and done that before...but it was fun the first time, and its fun now.
The story of this game is like a B movie that is so bad its good. Many of the story aspects are outrageous and unbelievable, but that's what makes it so compelling. You can't have the suspension of disbelief which is what makes this game so great. Were you to feel for these characters, you would hate their nihilistic little souls...but since you know its all kitsch and over the top drama you can let go and just have fun with it. That was my problem with GTA IV they made the character so real that it was easy to loathe him. In this case, your character and the world around him are likable because they're so unreal.
If you can look past over the flaws you'll have a superior game out of it. There is nothing really new, but nothing bad. Not a fantastic game, but a very good one.
