A nice little Splinter Cell wanna-be.

When I first started playing this game, I thought......Kemco has a lawsuit on it's hands. This game rips off Splinter Cell so much, it's not even funny. After playing it for 15 min., I really got into it, dispite it's flaws. Rogue Ops is a stealth/action game. It is VERY similar to Splinter Cell and Metal Gear Solid. You play the role of Nikki Connors. You are working for a secret government agency fighting terrorism. Sound familiar? Anyways, you are put on 8 missions to get to the bottom of the Omega 19 terrorist group and kill the man who killed your family. Like myself, when you first start playing this game you will be reminded of Splinter Cell and MGS. You have stealth weapons, a radar that shows you the position of enemies, and stealth moves and attacks. Unlike Splinter Cell, however, there is a bit more of a run-and-gun feel to this game. Mostly because the AI sucks, so you can get away with it. But essentially, the gameplay is the same. I have always liked these kinds of games, so I enjoyed this game quite a bit. The problem with Rogue Ops though, is it just seems like a B-movie trying to copy a feature film. The graphics are worse, but not bad. The presentation is only average. The game is missing the style that the other two games I mentioned have. The AI of the enemies is all over the place. Sometimes it is idiotic and sometimes it is too hard. The game also has many parts where you avoid the enemy's cone of vision, but somehow they still see you and start shooting you. This leads to many frustrating restarts and trial-and-error gameplay. It's one of the parts I didn't like about Splinter Cell, and it's abundant here. I must say, that Nikki Connors is way more fun to look at than old man Sam Fisher. And you do have some nifty gadgets to play with. The game does improve on some things that other stealth games don't have, but the lack of a huge budget definately hurt this title. The graphics are pretty good, but nothing that will blow you away. It has some decent lighting effects. The music is standard. The voice acting, while not terrible, isn't impressive. The gameplay is what you will enjoy here. Basically, if you like stealh/action games, I would pick this up. Just like any other game in this genre it can be very frustrating and very easy all at the same time. I found it to be a very enjoyable game and would recommend it to any fan of Splinter Cell or MGS. Just don't expect the same graphics or presentation. But for under $20, you can't lose.
