A Rhythm game that could possibly stand up to DJ Max Portable.

User Rating: 8 | Rock Band Unplugged PSP
Fans have been waiting to sink their claws into a rhythm game that would actually be AVAILABLE pretty much anywhere unlike the best rhythm game for the PSP, DJ Max Portable and its sequels that people had to order online or be lucky enough to live somewhere in Japan or Korea.

So here is Rock Band Unplugged for PSP. It looks complicated at first glance as it needs players to shift from one instrument to another from time to time via L and R buttons, but after you've browsed the tutorial, you'll be up and running in no time with ease.

The track mixing is excellent! If you miss a note on one of the four instruments (including the voice), only that track stops. This feature gives players the sensation of how it feels to play horribly bad in stage for real, as well as the positive if they play good. Props to the developers for getting original songs, rather than the usual covers.

The graphics are great and fortunately enough, customizations weren't left out. Players can assign names to band members, buy instruments, etc.

I just have two downsides to it. Primarily, the multiplayer which the Rock Band franchise is well-known for. PSPs have WIFI. Ad-Hoc. At least wireless play against or with another player would be sufficient.

The tracklist is well-balanced, although not really appropriate for the title in my opinion. It has to be more centered on Rock and Metal songs. Seeing ABC by the Jackson 5 shocked me, but well, you get the idea that it's made for almost all ages and music preference. I just find it wierd to have pop songs in a game that is named Rock Band.

Lastly, although the licensed songs are great. It's not the best from each artist. Like from Nirvana, I'd most likely expect "Teen Spirit" than "Wooden Heart" (or whatever the song is called there). I guess those are the most affordable songs to get licensed in a game which is convenient for "testing the waters" before licensing expensive hits.

However, this is a really good start. Check the tracklist before buying though, if you like most of the songs, go ahead and buy it. I'm quite sure they'd enhance the next installment and the thing i cannot stress more...

more ROCK/METAL songs please!
