More than just a mere "Pokemon" knock-off, it's a fun game in its own right! :!:

Without a doubt, the biggest problem with the "Pokemon" video games is that they spawned FAR too many knock-offs from other companies quickly looking to duplicate Nintendo's success and make a quick buck off of it. Atlus themselves tried to do it in 2000 and failed because they tried to be TOO similar to what "Pokemon" was without making any attempts to truly differtiate themselves from the franchise they were trying to copy. Dauntless, Atlus decided to try again in the year 2002 with a Game Boy Advance version. Playing the previous game installment isn't neccessary, just so long as there's a basic understanding of what is to be expected. In the Game Boy Advance version of "Robopon," Atlus wisely decided to differentiate their potential video game series away from what "Pokemon" was. Unlike in "Pokemon," the creatures had to be created! And the only way to do that was by fusing together batteries! Endless possible battery combinations meant for nearly endless possible creature creations. And the one thing "Robopon" had on "Pokemon" that the original video game series didn't have yet was the possibility of fighting with more than one monster at a time. And not only that, four monsters at one time could fight against the protagonists opponents, and they could do that all the time instead of just in certain situations! The graphics were FAR superior to anything that "Pokemon" had made up to that point, and the music, gameplay, challenge, and interesting story line was absolutely superb for a video game of its kind of vein! So it comes as a surprise to me as to why there has never been another "Robopon" video game made to appease fans who want something that's a different experience from "Pokemon." But until such a day might come, this game will definitely remain the best in the "Robopon" video game series, an experience that I certainly enjoyed, and it is for those reasons that I reviewed this game! Enough said! ;)
