I have only been playing for a few hours. I have seen a lot of reviews so far that have been very critical of Risen. Even though I am playing at the easy difficulty level ( I look for entertainment, not a real challenge) I have had to work at this game. After all it is a RPG. Pirahna Byte games are not a lot of fluff and glitter( see the Last Remnant, a good game by the way). Risen is dark and gritty. Yes, the graphics are rough. The character models could use some more work. But the game is quite good. I especially like the combat. Much better than Gothic 3. You actually have to use tactics. (It is a RPG).
It's been a slow start but we are getting in the groove now and really enjoying ourselves. This is a norm for PB games. I will give a more detailed review after I get farther into the game. But don't wait on me. Go enjoy yourself and get Risen. It won't be a waste of money.
I have just finished the game. My biggest complaint is the end battle. After all that work to reach that point the final battle was a big disappointment. It just didn't feel like it belonged in the game. There fore, I am deducting 1 point from my initial score. Up to the very end it was a very enjoyable game and that especially makes the ending disappointing.
