The much anticipated Risen , a game that eventually will grow on the player if he can break a 5 hour-playtime barrier.
I will support this by saying Deep Silver did a pretty good job in this coalition with Piranha Bytes , the game certainly made me think of Gothic 1.
Now about the game itself. I must say the introduction movie doesn't give you as much insight as you would wish , it gives you the essential information only (the fact that you shipwrecked, being the only survivor (+ a pretty gal ) , on an island where strange things happen all of a sudden) ; which i might say it could be good for some , because it drives you to find out whats going on.
The storytelling and interaction are beautiful (with minor drawbacks - as an example the body language is limited to the same 5-6 moves) , and i am saying this because i am a fan of this type of games , there is a lot of talking in the game , investigations and so on.
Game-play wise and combat wise , its way better than Gothic 3 (as compared to a game of the same type) , the combat is Hands on , if you click many times the player does some combos , and you eventually learn new combos by training from other persons which have those abilities and are willing to train you during the game. There is also magic involved , pretty good looking , but it could be better; and some other features that i will let you discover.
About the Graphics ... The game runs great on my system maxed out , but as i heard its is poorly optimized and won't run as great on some systems (ex: you might experience about 20-25 top 30 fps with an 2.8 Ghz Processor , 8800 GT video card , 2 gigs RAM) , so some of you might have problems with it.
Oh , and the faces are made like pretty basic , you'll start to find people who look the same around the whole map , some even have the same voice , and the graphics used for the faces are not the latest.
Now about the few bad parts i have encountered. And some nasty Bugs.
First of all , there is a point in a game where you cannot finish your advanced training , thus learning magic and others. You get stuck there and nobody wants to talk to you. It is kinda nasty to experience that , but nonetheless you can continue with other quests and keep playing without that - its not a game stopper.
Another thing is to be careful of what you do when you play your character , stealing from and beating up people that will further help you advance and finish some of your quests will make them deny talking to you thus ending your possibility to end that quest or task. Be weary of this.
Other that that you might see some geometry bugs , and some textures flickering here and there (not exactly noticeable , i was a game tester and i can't stop from seeing those things). Overall its a pretty good game , not terrific , but pretty good.
In any case , check your pocket , and if this game will take all you have for that moment i urge you to be careful because it might get disappointing.
The bottom line is that this game needs some serious Patching to make it live up to the expectations.
