They nailed it! The smoothest and most enjoyable platform to date for me. Attention to detail where it counts...gameplay

User Rating: 10 | Ratchet & Clank 3 (Platinum) PS2
I have been pc and video gaming for over twenty years now and when you put in as many hours as I have you start to get irritated by all the little details that the typical developers overlook. For example...punishing the player when they fail a segment of the game by forcing them to watch the preceding (fmv or ingame) cutscene over and over again. Or having the player sit through a 20-30 second load time over and over again after each retry. Another pet peeve is having the oversensitve control scheme be part of the challenge for gameplay to the point where I am pulling my hair out. Some GTA players know what I am talking about. RAC UYA however avoids all these irritations admirably. You can tell the devs went out of their way to keep the engine streamlined and tight for the PS2 and this is one crusty old player that really appreciates it. It's this level of attention that puts this game at perfection for me. It really doesn't matter the genre of game when comparing the overall quality of design and gameplay. Those are two facets of gaming that are universal. This is why I brought up the GTA example. Of course what most people will notice of RaC UYA is it's superb graphics and equally matched gameplay. A lot of variety has been thrown in to keep the fun factor at a sustained level of 10. Tons of polish and a solid storyline rounds the overall score up to 10 for me. The Isomniac team have my deepest repect and my hard earned cash for a job well done. I can't wait to see what this group comes up with on the next gen consoles. Sony should be counting their lucky stars to have this dev house on their side. BTW I am strictly an offline guy. I have grown tired of the online cheating scene that has formed over the past few years on so many pc and console games. So I rate this game without even bothering to check the online portion which I believe is getting high praise by others.
