Excellent platformer and shooter with a lot of content variety

User Rating: 8.5 | Ratchet & Clank Future: Tools of Destruction PS3
Tools of Destruction is an excellent platformer/shooter. If you played any of the previous Ratchet games you'll know what to expect. You'll be visiting a big number of diverse planets and shooting up plenty of robots with a huge and fun arsenal at your disposal. Blasting enemies is fun right from the beginning since you get good weapons early on, like rocket launchers for example.

The pacing of ToD is really great, at no point will you burn out. You'll be platforming for a few minutes, then you'll be shooting for a few minutes, then you'll enjoy the story for a couple of minutes, and then you'll even play a wide variety of minigames every so
often. The sixaxis motion sensing is very well used, you will be steering Ratchet as he falls from the sky, or navigating a little ball when you hack devices.

Apart from collecting bolts from smashed boxes, in ToD you also collect a new type of currency called raritanium, with which you can modify and upgrade your weapons. Visuals are fantastic, especially when you visit some of space levels when you fly across colorful space nebulas and meteor showers.

The story is pretty interesting and isn't hard to swallow, this is a separate story from the earlier games so playing any of the other PS2 titles isn't required at all. The first half of the game is pretty easy as it introduces all the diffirent aspects, but as you play later on it becomes really challenging.

Ratchet Tools of Destruction is packed with content and features, such as hidden collectibles, unlockable skill points and with up to 17 different planet's to explore for hidden collectibles and with 15 different weapons and additional gadgets it's really hard to get bored with this title. There is even a new game plus which becomes much more challenging in difficulty and enables you to upgrade your weapons even further for maximum destruction.
