Stupidly hard, or just plain stupid?

User Rating: 3.5 | R-Type Dimensions X360
R-Type Dimensions lets you play through R-type 1 and 2 with either updated or original graphics, that can be changed on the fly, as well as in unlimited mode which gives you infinite respawns. You can still play in Classic Mode, which is faithful to the original in every way and all modes can be played in either local or online co-op.

While the new graphics are nice, the problem with this game is that its mechanics are far too outdated to be worthwhile today. The game is based around trial and error and memorizing the stages. Most players who pick this up will die... a lot, and it is not fun. If I had spent the time in 1987 to learn the game, I would be happy to discover I could fly through the stages in the current version the exact same way. However, without the nostalgic glee of justifying an absolute lack of a worthwhile pastime in the late 80s, this game is nothing more than a pain in the ass. I strongly recommend most players to avoid this title.
