This is not just another shooter. Midway has come up with a really interesting combination of run-and-gun and psychic abilities, and ways to use them, in Psi-Ops.

Your character, Nick Scryer, starts combat trained and ready to fight. As events unfold, his trained psychic abilities also gradually return. These provide even more opportunities for making your way past, or through, obstacles and opponents in each area.

The controls are very responsive. Sometimes, getting off of ladders and hopping from boxes to ledges can be a problem, but this usually does not happen at critical points in the game. The issues that I found annoying are that the maps, due to the way they represent information, are mostly useless, that you can't physically grab opponents, and that you can only carry two weapons at a time.

Where this game really shines, in my opinion, is the extra and bonus content, most of which are available after you complete the game the first time through. You can use this unlocked content to further customize the game-play settings or to play special modes and levels.

Several comparisons have been made between Psi-Ops and Second Sight. Each game is well made in its own right. Action and story-wise, Psi-Ops offers more towards the beginning of the game while, excluding un-lockable content, Second Sight offers more towards the end. Which one is better really depends on what you prefer to have in a game and when you prefer to have it.

If you want to play a shooter that provides you with a few simple puzzles, and that gives you the option of defeating your opponents without firing a shot, be sure to give this game a try.
