@Shango4 Platformers have always been Nintendo's strong point. They use this genre to help their developers learn the ins and outs of the Wii U before moving onto something more ambitious because gameplay in platformers is generally less buggy than say...RPG or fighting games. i.e. Wind Waker HD was made to help the Zelda team learn what the Wii U is capable of before moving onto the real next gen Zelda.

Can Nintendo turn the Wii U around like they did with the 3DS? I believe so.

@3k3 You say that as if Nintendo needs to guilt trip people into buying those games. You're talking about two of the most successful franchises in the world! Of course our developers are going to crack under pressure at some point because they need to make a game that lives up to the name of the franchise.

@Fursnake I sense that what we're reading is a result of poor translation. When using similies, metaphors, and other descriptive mechanics, Asian languages translate very poorly into English. In Mandarin, for example, we would say "lei shi wo le" which literally translates to something like "I'm so tired I could die." but such a statement in Mandarin is considered mild and commonly used, more on par with just saying "I'm exhausted" in English. Masuda was likely just saying a Japanese equivalent of that phrase when he and the development team were talking about suffering from writer's block on Pokemon names.

Note that many Pokemon names often have puns incorporated into their names (i.e. Farfetch'd) and may sometimes incorporate other languages (i.e. Gardevoir = Guard + voir || voir means "to see" in French). The fact that this game is a simultaneous worldwide release makes writer's block all the more aggravating due to the need of multiple languages to consider during DEVELOPMENT instead of during LOCALIZATION. As we all know, RPGs are one of the most costly game genres to translate.

Of course, most English-speaking journalists never catch on and exaggerate the context of the original quotes.

@Ovirew @Crazyguy105 @josh7845 I must admit, that is very intriguing. I enjoyed the Pokemon Colosseum games and would love for Game Freak to make another original (and intense) story for the consoles.

Lack of on-the-go capabilities may hinder the whole trading experience a little though. For all the internet advancements, Game Freak still wants Pokemon to be a game where people actually go outside and meet each other in person to trade and battle. That's why the original games were so popular.

@DeltaMike90 That's a rather subjective opinion, don't you think?

@vader501st You really think Pokemon is comparable to Call of Duty?

I pity you.
