Zelda is not an RPG, maybe if you're casual and you don't know what an RPG is, sure. But Zelda has nothing to do with RPG at all.Drukter

I've been playing RPGs since 1988. Zelda is an RPG and is the MOST important Action RPG ever made. I would like for you to debate that last claim.

Well, you just described ZELDA.

I own SPM, and many sites do agree that it is more Platformer than RPG, but in this day and age, I guess the Line is Blurred...:)

Next you're going to tell us Zelda isn't an RPG...

GEEZUSS! (Nice fun blog to read) :)

Look, I agree with taht Blog, however, I find it way to hard to define the industry against the tide. I do agree, that Zelda is an RPG, BUT the Gaming Community doesn't, so then it comes down to definitions.

When we start mixing that stuff up, people can say that :

MGS4 was their RPG of the Year, or GTA4. It gets kind of crazy.

I think puzzle solving, character growth and exploration is a bigger part in Super Paper Mario than the actual Platforming part. Yeah, it's 2D and yeah you jump, and yeah, it looks like Mario 3, but it's hardly the same. I can't think of a single moment where there was a tricky jump. You know what else was a 2D Sidescroller? Castlevania: Symphony of the Night, Zelda II, Faxanadu, Battle of Olympus, Ys 3: Wanderers from Ys, Cadash, Popful Mail, Odin Sphere, etc etc.. RPGs have evolved over the years, it's kinda nitpicky to pingeon hold the genre with Final Fantasy or Oblivion standards don't you think?

huh? That's not an RPG, that was a Platformer...

SolidTy

Well..... Technically it was. You level up, do more damage, get more health, collect items. So it was a Realtime RPG.

Well, you just described ZELDA.

huh? That's not an RPG, that was a Platformer (Unlike the other games in the series)...

Sure, it had RPG elements (I have it), but it was a Platformer.

I could break down every game listed and proclaim they're not pure RPGs... whats your point? You don't see me arguing with the people listing Mass Effect or Fallout 3

I LOVED the controls. Well, I love using the Wiimote for RPGs like this. It's so relaxing not having to bunch your hands together with a little controller anymore. I played TOS2 with my hands by myside, or sometimes crossed.

Hardly anyone bought Opoona or Baroque; Tales 2 has not opened up the market that used to exist on Nintendo consoles; Dokapon Kingdom and Chocobo's Dungeon 3 didn't even get to say hello before retailers kicked their copies to the curve. That's not only America, that's everywhere.

Are we really going to argue over which games would sell over in America? As far as I'm concerned, RPG's are as niche as the Wii can get.

SirSpudly

All those games are B or C level titles, I hope you're not trying to compare their sales to big games like Fallout 3 or Mass Effect...

[QUOTE="Panzer_Zwei"][QUOTE="doubutsuteki"] I don't doubt it. I've played it for a couple of hours and I wasn't impressed. The SNES/SFC version that is. I've seen the Saturn version in action, but it's the same silly story, so why bother?

And yeah, I've actually seen the entire 52 episode series, believe it or not.

Video_Game_King

Bashing a game you've never played isn't any less stupid.

Depends on the game. I can bash any of the AVGN games all I want, despite playing very few of them. They've pretty much been proven to be crap.

You're digging yourself in a hole with this one.

Sonic and the Black Knight is not going to be a traditional Sonic game. It's more similar to Kingdom Hearts than Sonic. It's going to be much deeper than you think, with alot of skills to learn, weapons and armor to equip and other crap...

I don't know if you have played Overlord for the 360 or Lost Magic for the DS, but they are without a doubt RPGs.

The same goes with Puzzle Quest and their sequels. It's a Puzzle game, and yes, it's an RPG too.
