I tried one at the store. The 3d doesn't blur anymore or become double and the 3ds screen feels a lot bigger. Give the original one a good look because in terms of quality of picture it might be the best. The XL tends to show the jaggies a bit more and the original 3ds's screen is a little too small and feels squished.

It only plays beta tapes I heard. They decided to make it not play 3ds games to make it more unique. I mean, you'd think it could play those games, but you'd be wrong, and therein lies its most unique feature. What other modern device do you know of that plays beta tapes?

Btw, I don't know what a beta tape is. The only time I'd heard about them is on the Simpsons when Snake steals one and says, "Oh no... Beta!" and then throws it away
