Hello guys, recently purchaseda new HP Dv7t laptop. Its brand new, when I say recent it means last week.
Anyway, I installed a few games, UT3, CODMW1 and 2, The Witcher, and Mafia 2 (which I recenly bought, superb game). I began having these random "studders" during gameplay, noticeably playing COD since its fast paced and any slow-down you experience becomes really annoying. I can run almost every game on max (except Bad Company 2, that game on high chews my computer up a bit) in smooth framerate but these silly studders are beginning to really piss me off. One second the game is smooth as it can be, the next second it freezes for a split usually 1-2 seconds or shorter.
I've researched tons of places, and did almost everything I can (except reinstalling windows7, which HP conveniently did not supply a re-install disk), all my drivers are fresh-updated from the box, I mean I only bought this laptop like a week ago. I clicked on update anyway just for argument sake and watched it say "your blah blah is already recent" or something like that.
Many people say this and that but what I noticed is that the sound tends to get really screwed up the split second before these heart-attacks and the studders tend to be worst when NPCs are talking. Sometimes, only the background or ambient sounds can be heard while others are silent. I mean, even friggin Age of Empires 3 studders, and I even put all of them at low settings and this still happens!
Oh before I forget, here is my spec.
HP Pavilion Dv7, 1TB HDD (only 5400, could that be the problem? Nah, I had computers which are way worst play AoE3 smoothly), 4gb DDR3 Ram, CoreI7 1.6GHz, ATI Mobility HD 5650, anything else you need to know? Its not that best machine but I expect it to run at least AoE3 and CODMW1 alright...When I goto Systemrequirement place, my specs usually top out the games I want to play.
Now I am convinced this has something to do with my Audio, I don't have a sound card (I don't believe I do anyway), under device manager all it says is ATI High Def Audio Device and IDT high Def Audio CODEC (yes, I did update their drivers, they both came back already recent). For some reason the only game which does not experience too much sudder is Mafia2, which I run a little under max settings.
Anybody else having the same issue? Please don't tell me to upgrade my drivers and such...=)
Thanks for any comments!
oops forgot to mention, I have Win7 home. Sorry keep forgetting details, I heard from some forums that Win7 ecurity settings and antivir and firewall might cause this. Disabling them doesn't help, and running the games in Admin doesn't help either...
