So many people believe that trade in is nothing and buying used is nothing. Ok it may not affect the consumer at all for now. But lets say your job at Rare or Dreamworks, or splash damage is based upon sales (what form of entertainment is not?). Your sales are based on what has been produced, cause you created this item with a team who has poored their energy and time in trying to make something new and great. It goes to the public the first day and its a huge hit. But you look at the numbers sold new over the the next few months and then people purchasing from a place where they buy back and sell used. Used games get no profit to the artist and developers. Its like if I made a comic book. made 1000 copies and sold them all at a dollar a piece. Then those copies go to a publisher who buys them back foir 25 cents then sells it for 95 cents. All of them. That means of what copies are out, someone else made 900 plus on my own creativity. So in order to maximize my profits I deem it necessary to copywrite it and patent it so no one else can resell it with out part of the profits going to me. Its the same situation. Its about making money, and always will. As an artist I agree 100% with what they are doing. Because in the creative medium, its real easy to be taking advantage of and not making enough to keep going with what you really enjoy doing with your life.

liam72 Posted Apr 10, 2009 7:38 am PT @Makhdoom82 : I don't see how MMORPGs are designed in an "evil" way... The idea is not to create obsession but to create a world where enemies and friends are not stupid AI. There is no devil hiding in the game that will come out as soon as you open the program. The vast majority of MMORPG players are very reasonnable and those that are not reasonnable are not "sinners" or stupid or whatever. They just didn't see an addiction or obsession coming and they needed something to escape from a life they believed less interesting than the video game. Although you may be some what correct, the researchers are not looking at the people who made the game, they are looking at the players response to the game as their personal life seems to shrink outside the video game, and more on the video game itself. As for personal biased, it does not make your argument more valid, nor worth noting. and zanetanos, that may be true also, but video games and cable are w different genres of entertainment, and you cannot compare the two because they are not directly linked nowadays. Besides, those other activities that you menchine are most times more usefull, like college art drawing, or even reading or working on cars. Try not to "red haring" your tracks next time if you are trying to reach out with an outlandish oversight to a proposed seggestion.

Sony seems to have forgotten its past which has its roots in success. But as it stands in the video game industry, PS3's are not making it off of store shelves not because of the ps3 and its price, but for most consumers who have trusted sony's smart decisions in the past, people are starting to lose their trust and their commitment to sony's head beatings of "our console is better". in any case, the playstation 3 does have its upsides like gamespot has menchined, i too was a sony supporter. even when i got my sexbox 360, i bought the playstation 3 a week or two after it initially came out. But its new console feels way to much like the PSP and seems to certainly have lost their value in costumer satisfaction. About a week after i bought the system, i sold it, because i was so disapointed in sony that i gave up the system. Not even Gamestop had enough to give me a cash trade in. If that does not say to pricey and loss in support, id like to hear a really good reason why sony should continue the recent console war. But i believe sony should sit this one out and look towards the future, and see what they can do to keep costs down, and gameplay innovativly fun to play.
