I really think the redesign is cool. A one third weight reduction as well as double the battery life w/ the old battery is freaking awesome. And the video-out capability is a very nice selling point. The decision to exclude a second anolog stick however is extremely dissapointing and quite frankly- the only gripe I've ever heard about the PSP that I actually agree with. New colors are nice and so is a springless UMD slot. About the only thing I don't know yet are if there will be any significant changes to the chipset and capability of the PSP's processing power. SONY created an incredible chip in the CELL and in my opinion, to not wait a couple more fiscal years to develop and release a PSP that uses at least some of that technology in order to R&D,market and promote a "new" PSP that's just lighter with a video-out jack?, just doesn't make to much sense. Maybe SONY just wants to release a "new" PSP to make a few waves, generate some attention going into Holiday Season 07 and firm up support for a new brand that's only a few years old. Either way I just bought a PSP-- so I'm going to hold out on the new one until a true redesigned PSP2 is released or until the trade-in credit at my local Gamestop for the old one makes it conveinant enough to sell my old one and get a new one without taking too much of a hit in the wallet. Regardless, I like what SONY is doing wtih this generation. All they need to do now is really get some awesome games in the pipeline and their set. And with titles like SOCOM: Tactical Strike, God of War: Chains of Olympus, Syphon Filter: Logan's Shadow and Echocrome already in development for the PSP as well as Heavenly Sword, Killzone 2, MGS4 and a new SOCOM for the PS3 hot in the oven as we speak, I know SONY is going to have no problem squashing Microsoft in this generation.

I bought my system a few weeks after launch due to the unavailability of the system and since I'm a die-hard Sony loyalist, didn't mind shelling the extra c-note for the 60 GB version. I'm almost completely satisfied with my purchase too. I really did feel like Sony should have pushed harder for some more high caliber games available at launch though, and even though I'm a loyal fan to the Sony brand, I do believe they bungled the U.S. and Japanese launch of the system. They should have just waited till February '07 or even March and released a flurry of awesome games along with an adequate number of PS3's for all their loyal fans. I don't know about you but I'm just starting to see what I've been wanting to see from a video game since Doom and Return To Castle Wolfenstein first came out. Yeah sure the PS2 had some pretty good shooters, but never before in the history of gaming has such a level of detail and realism been possible to render on a home console. The guys and gals at Sony knew this and should have known that a few more months or even, as preposterous as this might sound, a half a year would not have hurt their launch as much as not coming out of the gate strong did. I believe that if Sony really wants to win the console wars once and for all they have to stop competing with their competitors and dictate the battlefield on their own terms. 1.) Stop messing around with politics and rights clauses and secure the big name exclusives it needs like GTA and Assassin's Creed. 2.) Force publishers to stop releasing crappy content on their games so as to make them release a game only if it passes a respectable level of enjoyability. P.S. That's not that hard to do, just beta test the hell out of it and forget the term "final launch date." I mean come on people, your fans will wait for a game that's better in every aspect of its gameplay, hell they have to, they don't have a choice! 3.) Once and for all destroy that bastion of online gaming they call XBL with a live video chat window in the lobby and the game, downloadable content for free and for a fee ready at launch or possibly, maybe, hopefully voice recognition software for message sending. 4.) And lastly invest in the software tools that the PS3 game developers are going to need to push the RSX Engine to new heights in video game development.
