I really like this article. I think Mr. Wright did a great job exploring the topic, and gave good examples of what he's writing about. As with any trope or meme, things get worn out. Catch phrases from various times and decades start to sound the way old Tech looks in movies and TV series from five or ten years ago. Of course the same can be said for clothing fashion and automobiles. People and time move on, and some things should move on faster than others.

@markdelaney: Mr. Delaney, It was very kind of you to respond to my rant, considering the fact that as a political Independent, and denizen of New England. I unfairly kind of mocked you, a citizen of the "Left coast". Your reply showed that you are a better person than I. Your terms "messy but lovable", in the title of your article obviously hit one of my negative buttons, and I apologize. Frankly, I've never seen any GameSpot article author offer comments here before. 👍👍 While you are out biking, (something I use to do in a 20 mile round trip commute five or six days a week), I sit contentedly pursuing my interests in Geopolitics, world affairs, making maps for my military simulator Steel Beasts Pro, and reading publications about entertainment and gaming. Thank you for correcting me about why additional seasons of Watchmen weren't produced. As a Senior, I remember when HBO was the hallmark of great entertainment in the 1980's. Of course that was due to the fact that they aired a lot of great films, many of which contained content that Broadcast TV couldn't broadcast because of censorship, and needing to be "family friendly". Then as you know, HBO produced some stellar series like the ones I mentioned earlier, and you confirmed that you like also. I have to state here, that I am against production companies using their productions to promote any agendas, be they politically Left, Right or Social. I just want to be entertained and not preached to. I have family members who used to be referred to as leading "alternative lifestyles". We never discuss any of the "social issues", because they lead the lives they want to, and love whomever they want to. Those are personal and private decisions that don't require any conversation or comments on. I will leave you with this thought. OMG...!!😲😂 Herogasim and the final episode of this season's "The Boys"! The line🎵 "something for everyone.. come join the fun"🎵, comes to mind from Peewee's make believe playhouse possibly? But I could be mixing that up with lyrics from one of the songs in the film/play "Cabaret" 🤣My mouth was open, between "OMGs" and laughing. In closing, I really appreciate your kind response, and as we Trekkies say.. "Live long and prosper."🖖😊

Reading this article's author's bio, "he likes biking around Portland, chasing Circa Survive across the country, and fighting for animal liberation". Tells me everything that I would want to know about someone that titles the article, "Westworld Is The True Successor To Lost Because It's Similarly Messy But Lovable." I found absolutely nothing "lovable" about Lost. Agreed, Lost was messy. I got annoyed after watching a few of the first episodes, because the show runners were obviously just throwing in everything but the kitchen sink in the series. Just to keep it cool, hip, and mysterious. Of course a good cast of actors, made it possible for people to become loyal fans of the various characters, and therefore the series itself. The finale style of.. (No spoiler) "Oh.. it was all just a dream" style cop out, to excuse every ridiculous bit of stuff the creators wanted to throw in on a whim. Shows that my hasty departure from wasting my time was very intuitive. Fan loyalty explains why a lot of productions exist long past their expiration dates. Westworld is okay in my opinion, but just barely. I really don't care about any of the characters. The production values, the nudity, and infrequent action, are the only things that keep me even slightly interested in the series. My life would have been very complete if they hadn't released another season of the series. In my opinion, HBO has yet to create anything near as compelling as "Game of Thrones" over the years. Witness the fact that series like Lovecraft Country, Watchmen, and a favorite of mine, Raised by Wolves, were all canceled after one or two seasons. I have to admit that HBO did offer some of my most favorite shows like Boardwalk Empire, Band of Brothers, and Deadwood, to name a few of about half dozen. Aside from the most the recent series, Gomorrah, HBO Max really hasn't offered a "must watch" series that I'm really invested in. I am giving the rather light weight Irma Vep some viewing time, because the character and the actress playing her are likable, and the writing and production values aren't bad.

June 29, 23022 - For some reason the "entertainment industry" has decided to cast their lot with about 15% of the Western society's most "activist" marginal groups. They want to be "hip" and look like they care about "social issues". However, people that are not happy about "social pandering", and are happy with what human society's evolution has proven over thousands of years. Will not buy their products or spend money on their films and TV programs. Big business hates controversy, but I think this time they are misjudging how the average person thinks about things. Most people just want to be left alone, and have entertainment that doesn't conflict with their tastes and values. Those that control the entertainment industry refuse to understand that, and want to use their productions to further a social agenda that they champion. As one well known athlete said "Even conservatives by sneakers." For me, Sean Connery was James Bond, and the original 1935 King Kong didn't need sequels or "reimaginings". Hey entertainment companies! You want to be current and cutting edge? Come up with something original and stop riding on the coat tails of classic films, characters, and TV series.

This all part of the "My beliefs, are the only beliefs." We call it the "cancel culture", but its just a bunch of people hating on anyone that may or may not agree with their opinions and lifestyle. We don't go into every local business, or ask every person in a company who assists us, what their political or religious beliefs are. We just want them to do the job they are paid to do, and do it well. End of story.

@deth420: The pleasure speaking with you was all mine. I'm old and the latest Disney productions annoy me because of my political leanings. However, I don't fault you for not getting your Disney productions in a completely legal way😉 It's the way us Americans get even for being forced to pay for expensive subpar products. Even though I don't agree with a certain ice cream company's politics. I still purchased their products, until I felt that the quality that was the reason for me buying them, was disappearing. Personally, I feel there are so many ways for people of good will to converse online without having to rely on certain social media (which I've started calling "anti-social media") platforms. I find it interesting how many people complain about being attacked, assaulted, and bullied on those platforms but still continue to use them. It's like walking down a dangerous dark street knowing you're going to be assaulted, but go anyway. I think the idea that "things should be that way", is the argument used. However, reality says that's the way it is. Sorry for the long reply to say, thank you for your time and consideration. Stay well, and see you in the next comments forum on a GameSpot article.😉
