@buddaball: this coming from the guy who apparently thinks modern online stores shouldn’t have basic functionalities like shopping carts. This isn’t even a criticism exclusive to the Epic store honestly.
@godscoper: You’re right, I don’t need to buy them. I only need to deal with my experience hampered due to the fact I’m not shelling out cash. I care because it negatively impacts the progression in the game, I care because I love the cosmetic side of Halo, and I care because I don’t enjoy being preyed on by a billion dollar corporation. Also I call out any dev or publisher who tries to pull this crap, not just Microsoft.
Why do I care? Because it negatively impacts how games are designed. Just look at the difference between how you obtain armor in Halo 3 and Halo 5. It’s night and day. And I guess my $60 wasn’t me supporting the devs?
You’re right there isn’t a gun to my head, but the game is still being designed around those microtransactions which purposely negatively impacts certain aspects of said game such as customization.
You act as if the cost of updating these types of games are some astronomical fee, but it’s quite literally a drop in the bucket compared to the billions of dollars these companies rake in. We also used to get new content in the past as well, we just didn’t have the option to endlessly dump money into a game.
And some people buy cocaine to “enhance” their daily life, doesn’t mean it should be encouraged. But hey maybe I’m one of the few remembers back when games were complete packages and we didn’t get nickeled and dimed for everything that would have just been part of the $60 packages. Goodbye unlocks, hello paying for skeletons.
