Have a ps4. Ps3. 360. 3DS with all DS games. PS Vita.
If someone owns a PC, then a 3DS or PS3 is most advised. PS4 just isn't making my purchase feel worth it. There are just no real exclusives for it worth buying, and Destiny just didn't do it for me so that kills the only reason to own a PS4 for now. The serious lack of local multiplayer is a massive downer but that feels more like lazy devs and pushy publishers that want people to play online only.
PS4 has some fun stuff. 2nd Son is good fun. If you have PS+ you can get a couple freebies. Though this month's offers were rather disappointing.
I've still yet to catch up with all the rpgs and action games on ps3 which still takes up most of my time and still releasing tons more new titles every month. Not to mention you can still play free online with PS3 so far from what I've seen. At least GTAV.
3DS has games that feel like games. Sonic Boom on the 3ds beat the turd out of the bugfilled Wii U version and turned out to be a lot more diverse gameplay than Wii U. So I highly recommend a 3DS, especially if you love RPGs with Persona Q coming out in a couple weeks and Pokemon like 3 days before it, though Pokemon X and Y seemed more fun than ORuby and ASapphire.
Personally if you have a PC and you aren't into Destiny. New Gen consoles like PS4 are just a waste of space and money. Load times are just annoying. Games should be plug and play and ps4 DOES have a lot of updates for some games like Kill Zone.
PS Vita is a sadly underused handheld. It feels great and plays great. Gravity Rush is one of those games you WISH you had on a ps4 and not to mention it has a fairly decent library right now of role-playing games and exclusives like Murasama Rebirth and its 5 amazing stories. Too bad Sony doesn't seem to know what to do with its handheld game. And the serious lack of deals for the system makes buying off the PS store a big waste of cash unless its a new release like Tales of Hearts R which is freaking amazing right now. Comes with the 'exclusive' costume packs of old Tales of characters.
My most used for gaming? PC/3DS, PS3, Vita, PS4 (haven't beaten 2nd Son yet). There are not enough games churning out for ps4 or Xbox One. PS3 still has some powerhouses coming out for it too.
Only ONE jrpg announced so far that I know for PS4. Neptunia Victory II. That's it. PS3? Shining Resonance from SEGA. Tales of Zestiria from Namco.
Just buy a 3DS, and a 60GB ps3 bulky model that can play the ps1 and ps2 games and upgrade its harddrive to a bigger one if you plan on installing lots of media on your harddrive. Then you'll be set for life. PS2 still has the greatest games I've ever played on a system on it. And there are some hardcore awesome games that are MUST play on ps1.
Or just stick to PC and game happy without being charged to do basic stuff.
I don't support censorship. I'll just import the japanese version. Shame Vita finally gets something for its target audience, yet still feels it needs to censor everything like they did with Disgeae 4 on ps3.
Witcher 3 is leading by example. I have no doubt it will kick Dragon Age 3's ass pretty hard. Or that EA will at least mysteriously delay its game if it sees Witcher 3 having more to offer in terms of quality and gameplay than they ever hope to deliver. Not that EA won't take shortcuts no doubt to find ways to make the game unappealing somehow. They have a special knack for messing up their own games.
@winnerex It's a 2D top down Zelda game. They are ALL short. It took about 12 hours to get everything done, most Triple A games like Bioshock Infinite are pretty short and only run about 7-10 hours if you aren't dicking around.
Personally I enjoy platformers and RPGs more. Tales of Vesperia is still top in my book. If you're out to have a great single player experience and nothing more, I can see why Zelda got on the list. It's got a great story, it's got fun exploration and cool bosses, and adds a bit of freshness to an otherwise old and series.
Game of the YEAR for me though would likely be Etrian Odyssey 4. Personally if you think triple A equals quality and fun then you haven't gamed much in 2013. We got like 5-10 bad games for every single decent one we got.
GTA 5 is best open world single player mode that gives us some of the best Dark Comedy since Saints Row The 3rd. I had hoped Saints Row 4 could of taken the series further but it all felt like a slightly bigger DLC to the last game than a true sequel, though it was the most fun overall imo, just not GOTY.
Last of Us would win on narrative alone. Game play could of been better. But the moral choices you go through in that game are to be experienced at least once in your life, the ending alone is world playing for.
Tomb Raider, great game. Till you best it the next morning and wonder where your 50 bucks went. Amazing game just terribly short and no replay value as no one plays the online portions of it.
Bioshock Infinite is just all about humanity. It holds no punches back. It's dark. It's fast paced and it was one of the best rides I had in 2013 out the gate. I personally think its story was better told than the Last of Us but not as relatable.
Still, there are a slew of people out there that would of liked to see Civ V New World be given game of the year. Just because you don't like the game picked, doesn't mean squat. That is THEIR pick. At least we all got to vote on what games mattered to US afterwards.
Personally I'm waiting to get my hands on Bravely Default this year, a 3ds title no less. I just find games on 3DS and indie titles to just deliver more of what I love about video games.
In the end, as much as some idiots claim games have "evolved" haven't played many ps2 games. Hell, the ONLY thing that's "evolved" is the amount of textures and audio clips you can fit into a game. And many like Square and EA and Capcom use those cutscenes and other tactics to skip forward in their games and distract you from how little effort they actually put in to making a truly fun single player experience.
If anyone claims MULTIPLAYER is the FUTURE then gaming has indeed gone to the crapper. No game is worth buying unless it has a solid single player experience unless its intentions are solely marketed as MMO competitive gaming.
tl;dr: Whatever makes you happy is the clear winner. Ignore the rest of the BS out there known as "MY PERSONAL OPINION AWARDS" because that's all they are.
And I totally agree with you as a parent for gaming. Sony and MS were never kid focused.
Wii is still one of my favorite systems, and you can still play those games on Wii U. So you got a lot of options if you haven't played many of those. Great mario games too.
But purely as a gamer, wanting more challenging and better single player experiences with depth and action, or some good old JRPGs and such, it just doesn't deliver. Though Wonderful 101 is a gem and I wish Nintendo would make more games like that, it is still one of the best games on Wii U to me and it has nothing to do with already established franchises. They need more of that because spending hundreds on a system to play one or two games is not my cup of tea.
That felt really short somehow. Not as many interesting comments as the last video, and I know Danny spurred a lot of ragers, though at least there were like three decent ones to agree or laugh at.
Yeah, Wii U isn't so bad, just has no games and doesn't look or feel like it innovates on anything that the 3DS hasn't already done and better imo.
Heck, if the 3DS ever got the graphical upgrade of the Wii U we'd only end up getting less games anyways since the coding would take longer and costs would rise. I don't think we need that many super powered systems to have fun. PS VITA has the most graphics, and a HD screen, but I never once felt compelled to buy one unlike the PSP. Though admittedly I waited a few years to buy one since I had a DS anyways and backwards compatibility just helped the transition from old to new.
Sadly the Wii to Wii U transition was rather poor. They even cut Game Cube support despite it playing Wii games so they can make Game Cube remakes? Really? As nice as the HD Wind Waker looks, it was still the same game. All that man power could of been put to better use helping with the new Zelda or a Starfox game. Or *gasp* maybe even a whole new IP!
Wii U design had no one with vision. Game Cube tried to let people use their DS as a controller for Final Fantasy and it seemed like a novel idea to try and work that symbiotic relationship more into the next system. We never got that. And the Wii U had terrible terrible marketing and Nintendo didn't even seem to know what they were trying to market it as.
Nintendo needs to come into the future and bring in new blood to the company. Dragging out a poor old dude whose slaved away making your company famous out of retirement because you messed up by not releasing any games on Wii U, is real pathetic.
Anywho, tl;dr Nintendo killed it's own chances at success by ignoring and shunning all feedback towards their console. Since they don't need third-party support than let them deal with the burden of making ALL the games.
The finding friends with a Wii U is damn near non-existent. Only 1 of them owns it and they know why I won't get one. They have long since gave up trying to convince me to spend near 400 bucks to own a Wii U. Nintendo really needs to learn to stay within 200 and start sucking it up by offering a free game. Their 3DS sales would sustain them for a good while.
I personally don't want to own another system with only Mario, Zelda, and spinoff games with said characters. Even if they released a new Metroid, what now? Are they really going to be able to make a fun and unique experience with the tablet that the Wii Motes introduced?
Nintendo has made a series of overly conflicting statements and their constant refusal to admit that the world is not what it was 10 years ago. We've long since moved on to more social ways to expend our fun with games. We've grown up and have kids with new age tastes that have a different sense of what we classic enthusiasts called hardcore gaming.
I personally will never buy a Nintendo console outside of a 3DS, which I've gotten 2 so far, and it's mostly because Nintendo doesn't listen to us. They DON'T CARE ABOUT THE CORE GAMERS. I mean for goodness sake they even got so desperate for money they ATTACKED LET'S PLAYS AND REVIEWERS OF THEIR OWN GAMES AND DIVERTED THEIR FUNDS TO THEMSELVES WHILE PRETENDING TO BE MERCIFUL AND ALLOWING THEIR PRAISE OF NINTENDO VIDEOS TO STAY UP ON YOUTUBE. They even refuse to make CGI and more for their Smash Brothers because they hate let's plays so much. They just won't. That's pathetic. Very childish reactions.
Nintendo is a shell of their former selves. Once, god forbid but it's gonna happen sooner or later, their father of Mario and Zelda will no longer be around to keep digging them out of a grave. He even lambasted Nintendo for their over reliance on his characters and himself.
Nintendo has too much pride and wants to control everything we do on their console to ensure all our attention is on them and their products that they don't even allow anything beyond the most basic of basic features for internet. They are REFUSING TO MOVE INTO TODAY and offer us ways we COULD enjoy what little games they have.
Would you like to play online against friends with Smash Brothers? Sorry, you have to be physically within range of the player to do so. 3DS version is already shaping up to be the superior version so WHY get a Wii U? Hell, they even delayed Donkey Kong, new Zelda is still ways off, no sign of Metroid ANYWHERE so you can forget about having any exciting explorations through some monster and pirate filled worlds in need of rescue.

So long as those 4 million users world wide actually ENJOYS and BUYS THE GAMES then Nintendo's Wii U will continue to have a decent enough life among the current systems like PS4 and Xbone. In FACT the WII U HAS THE MOST FUN GAMES OUT RIGHT NOW OUTSIDE OF MULTIPLATFORM GAMES LIKE CoD AND BF4.
So, no Danny. As much as we may not want a Wii U. The Wii U is still most fun. And my friend is constantly bringing over his Wii U with 3D Land and we STILL play Wonderful 101. And I STILL suck at Pikmin 3 but I've grown to enjoy it actually.
It's all about the games YOU want to play. Wii U has those games that some still crave. But lets hope Nintendo can get Xeno Blades out. They truly need that title at this point. Any multiplatform game I get on PC and let my friend play it if he wants. We both have PCs and he, despite having a great computer, prefers his Wii U. I won't bash his choice of gaming anymore than he would my own so we just share. And while I personally still think the Wii U tablet is cheap and flimsy, it hasn't failed to deliver a comfortable gaming experience.
