Hey Ubisoft, I think it's about time you pulled another Sands of Time out of the proverbial hat. We liked the trilogy and even the two games (four, counting exclusives) after that, but we're ready for you to stop wasting this incredible franchise on the casual market and re-imagine it for the next gen like you did 10 years ago.

Why is the user score 8.1?

@DeanoFantasy @tahsineo Oh, I'm sorry if you're mistaken. We don't want to play the crappy version that will be released for the seven year old console. We just wanted a better version for our current generation PCs. You can keep the console version.

I know that you don't plan or need to do this, Microsoft, but many of us would love a PC version.

@Laveidem Yes, Ryse looks good, but it seemed overly dependent on QTEs to make the gameplay interesting. A QTE prompt after two hits on every single enemy is too much in my opinion. I'll reserve my final judgement until we see more gameplay in different scenarios but I didn't really enjoy the gameplay style from this demo.

@TomMcShea Hi. I appreciate the fact that you gave The Last of Us a score you think it deserves instead of being swept away by the hype. A 10 or an 8 might mean different things to different reviewers and I don't believe that scores from different sites are comparable. However, I think you should consider the following:

This wasn't a personal review that you wrote for your own website. It was a Gamespot review. Most people who are commenting here don't even know your name and when this score is aggregated by other websites, it will read "Gamespot: 8.0" Therefore, you have a duty to ensure that the score reflects how Gamespot, as a website, rates games. The score for this game will inevitably be compared with other scores given out by Gamespot and while we understand that different reviewers have different tastes, there should be some semblence of cohesion in the scores.

Did GTA IV and and MGS4 really, unquestionably deserve the 10s they got? The current userscore of MGS4 is 9.4 and that of GTA IV is 9.1 which means that gamers clearly found things to complain about. Yet the reviewers, who noticed these flaws still decided to go with the perfect score because as a whole, the games impressed them. I want to paraphrase Justin Calvert here who, near the end of the GTA IV review says, "The minor flaws that you'll experience are no more difficult to overlook than those in previous GTA games, and they're greatly outnumbered by the features that will impress and surprise you anytime you think you've already seen everything that the game has to offer."

What about the other high scoring games of Gamespot? Thanks to your decision, The Last of Us currently has a score lower than Guacamelee!, Far Cry 3, Max Payne 3, Mass Effect 3, Uncharted 3, FIFA 12, Black Ops, Vanquish, God of War III, Resistance 2, Burnout Paradise, Ninja Gaiden Sigma, Tomb Raider, Revengeance, Modern Warfare 3, Modern Warfare 2, Modern Warfare, Deus Ex: HR, Catherine, Shadows of the Damned, MotorStorm: Apocalypse, Marvel vs. Capcom 3: Fate of Two Worlds, Killzone 3, Mass Effect 2, Need for Speed: Hot Pursuit, Flight Control HD, Dead Rising 2, Mafia II, 2010 FIFA World Cup, BioShock 2, Ninja Gaiden Sigma 2, Guitar Hero 5, Prototype, Resident Evil 5, Far Cry 2 and many more. Are you absolutely sure that the game deserves a lower score than all the games listed above? You might say that people should read the review and stop comparing scores but what's the point of a numeric score that can't be compared?

Another point that angered many die hard fans was the video review. How is it logical for a game with a character development based 16 hour campaign and multiplayer to have a 3 minute video review while the blink-and-you'll-miss-it no-multiplayer Revengeance gets a 6 minute video review? The video shows nothing on the interactions with other friendly characters, the role of Ellie in combat or the crafting system. The gameplay previews here provide more details than the actual review. You chide the easy puzzles yet don't show a single one in the video. If you're going to go against the popular opinion, you should provide proof.

Judging hyped games with a critical eye is a quality worthy of praise. But if that judgement seems careless and clashes with the general rating philosophy of the website you're representing, then it becomes a problem.
