Thanks for the responses, sounds like I'm gonna have to get my old PS3 up and running again.

So if DLC, game saves need to be on the internal drive:
can I transfer these files directly from the old (external) drive to the new PS3?
or
do I need to backup the old drive, onto another external hard drive, and then restore the files onto the new PS3?
I hope that makes sense.
Thought as much, thanks.
Will I need a third hard drive to backup/restore, or can I do it straight onto the new PS3?
So, after having the YLOD on my 60GB PS3 a couple of times now, I've decided that I'll probably have to get a new PS3.
My question is will I be able to use the hard drive from my old PS3 as an external drive with a PS3 Slim? And more specifically, will I be able to access game saves, downloaded content etc from the old hard drive, or will I have to backup my old drive and restore it onto the new PS3?
Thanks.
The Last Guardian (and the Ico/Shadow of the Colossus HD releases, but I don't think they've been officially announced yet)
I've always owned Playstations, so I prefer that layout, however if I were to buy an Xbox, I'm sure I wouldn't have too much trouble getting used the Xbox layout. I'd probably still prefer the PS layout though.
Fallout: New Vegas and The Last Guardian; I probably will read/watch reviews but I don't intend to pay much attention to them, mainly because I'll be deliriously happy if I can play Fallout: NV without it crashing on an almost hourly basis (I love Fallout 3 but that does tend to wear thin), and I imagine The Last Guardian might get somewhat mixed reviews because it seems like the sort of game that some people might not 'get'.
There was this RPG port from x-box when PS3 first came out. Forget the name buit it had terrible voice acting.

Oblivion? Great game, but it only had a few voice actors, and they didn't always sound that into it. Fallout 3 was a bit of an improvement though.
