I always play new games using the default settings without any regard to achievements until I finish it. If I love the game, I'll usually use a guide and go after the 1000 GS afterwords but usually leave out any online achievements that require a ludicrous amount on online play. I'm lukewarm on the flag-type achievements. The reward for collecting 100 flags or shooting 100 pigeons is often an empty feeling when looking back at the massive amount of time I invested in doing it. And I NEVER try to do it without a guide for sanity sake.
Probably around 8-10 hours for me. I played Mass Effect for long stretches. I could easily go longer but I usually combine beer and game playing. Enough said.
Prey. Incredibly hyped with the whole "10 years in the making" nonsense, it was a very pedestrian shooter with puzzle elements that made me want to stop gaming altogether. And the tacked on multiplayer was just, well...embarassing.
Pure escapism, although sometimes it seems almost like a second job. Favourite games of all time: Pitfall II for Atari 2600, Shadowkeep for Apple II, Earl Weaver Baseball for the PC, and Halo:Combat Evolved for XBOX. I'd probably have to say Halo is my all-time favourite because it got me back into gaming after years of not playing or even owning a console. Unlike in the past when 99% of video games were garbage, it seems every week XBOX or PS3 is rolling out another game I HAVE to play which amazes me.
