Rayman Origins definitely the best 2D platformer of this generation, right up there with Super Meat Boy. Mario was pretty much a no-show when it came to challenging 2D platforming. This coming from a guy whose high school nicknames were "Mario," "Nintendo," "Game Boy," and "Casper." Three of those are video game related, I'll let you figure out which ones. Even with that obvious bit of fanboy pointed out, I would be inclined to say Super Mario Galaxy 2 is the best overall platformer of the generation (and my favorite game of the generation).

Man I'll never get the massive hate for Prime 3. Go hate on something more deserving like Other M. Maybe its because I'm not some mega hardcore Metroid fan, but I enjoyed the Prime games almost equally. Cant even say I understand the watered down sentiment as each game was only moderately challenging and complex. I know its an outcast opinion to enjoy Prime 3, but I just think the hate is far overblown.

[Crazy huge post of Metroid Prime 3]

Edit: And because I don't feel like getting into 2 quote chains. Other M is an actioned up take on Metroid done right. Because the action is not only good, but it comes with some damn good boss fights to boot. Plus you still maintain all of Metroid's upgrades and sense of empowerment. The atmosphere sucks, the level design is bland, and whoever decided to give Metroid a story like this should be shot. SO yeah again a poor game on Metroid standards, but if I wanted an action take on Metroid. Other M was better at it. Prime 3 is like a tweener of what the Prime games were doing and a more pure action thought process and struggles at both.

/end rant.

I agree with pretty much everything you have to say about Metroid Prime 3, especially the fact that Retro didn't adjust the game to fit the new (imo, better) play style.

Although I think you are giving Other M waaaaay too much credit. The gameplay was a repetitive dodge fest with little to no strategy, with the transitions to first person being jarring novelty at best. You didn't even have to aim at the mosters, you just had to be facing in their general direction. Not to mention they straight up RUINED Samus; giving her a personality was one of the worst things they could have done to the Metroid franchise. They took a badass female bounty hunter and replaced her with a scared girl in a power suit. Remember that cut-scene where Ridley reveals his full grown form? Samus does nothing more than stand there stunned (while Ridley kicks the **** out of her friend)... despite defeating Ridley four times before in Metroid, Prime, Corruption and Super.

Other M was an abomination. Not only did it have sub-par action gameplay, but it managed to ruin one of the most important symbols in gaming.

Two different markets as far as I'm concerned.

The people who buy DS's want a device that is designed solely for gameplay.

Tablets are generally much more expensive and they obviously are not designed with games in mind.

I like his games more than I like his personality, that's for sure.

Why SKYRIM does deserve to be GOTY:

It's insanely fun.

Not surprising. Simply reaffirms my decision to stop supporting Capcom.

Super Mario Galaxy 2 so far.

Just my opinion, of course.

As long as people love military/arena shooters. I bet it will slip a little after MW3 while continuing to be insanely popular, but with new hardware will come a resurgence. Plus, Call of Duty has a lot of places it could go. It was smart of them to use an outdated engine for MW1-3, Black Ops and World at War because it forced them to get the most out of that engine. Now they can upgrade top the next out-of-date engine and look like they're pushing the envelope while doing it.

Activision sure is a devious bunch of business men.
