Too bad. Was hoping for better. Looks like the average metacritic scores so far are hovering around a 7. Eurogamer also gave it a 6. Kevin's take is probably about right - unfortunately.
Looks like a typical "frenetic" FPS to me. Guess I am just not into sprinting around trying to shoot as many people as I can in the shortest amount of time. Now a "Dark Souls" type FPS would be different. Something that takes patience, strategy, and planning. Could there be an FPS like that?
PS4 sold more than double the XB1 from Nov. 23 to Nov. 30th. That's impressive even with a supply shortage. In Europe, PS4 is clobbering XB1! For this same week PS4 sold 708,354 units in Europe compared to 56,909 units for XB1, more than 12x. Wow!
Nice review Kevin. I think I do miss the 1/2 point scores though. 7.5 was usually my break even point for either buying a game or waiting for the bargain bin. Now, not sure what to do with 7. I liked having the "good, but encroaching on great score", now it is just "good". Maybe you reviewers do this in your head still? If a game would garner a 7.5 or above, would you round it to an 8? If so, then I'm assuming this game ranged somewhere between a 6.5 and 7.4 in your mind, and got the final 7 score. I'll probably wait for some other User scores and Metacritic, to determine if a buy or not. Regardless, thanks for your honest review.
MGS is a good movie/game hybrid, IMO. 15 minute, beautifully rendered cutscenes, and then some great interactive gameplay as well. I haven't played Beyond yet (by the way, how come no user scores on that yet?). Heavy Rain was pretty good and definitely different, although, perhaps Quantic Dream would do better utilizing the MGS movie/gameplay approach. Give us those beautifully rendered long cutscenes, but also give us some great interactive gameplay between the movies. Trying to play during the movie perhaps doesn't work so well, judging from the Metacritic reviews I'm seeing on this game.

So basically what I am hearing Kevin - is so far, in summary, not very impressed. Hoping for more. Game still needs quite a bit of work before the Feb. release. Hmmmphhhh, I had high hopes for this game, but now they are somewhat dashed after reading this article. Oh well, I appreciate your honest feedback. Hopefully they will incorporate your input to further polish the game before release.
