For my trip, I am going to leave my gaming rig at home obviously. So I am carrying around a small laptop and want to get some games that could fill in the boring spots.

Some points in mind:

1) the laptop has low-med performance with 1.5 ghz intel M proc, 1.5 ghz mem, and an integrated gpu.

2) it doesn't have soundcard, so perhaps rts, sim etc genre might be better than fps, rpg

3) the screen is small so perhaps gameplay > visuals

Something like the original roller coaster tycoon seems to fit my needs. Other games?

All I did was reinstall XP while nothing else changed. Perhaps it's the drivers or something, but the internet is slower than before. Normal surfing seems pretty unchanged but the download speeds are noticeably slower. Even during (legal stuff!) torrenting, while before the download did not affect my normal surfing, now it slows down the internet so much, I am forced to pause it while surfing the web. AND the download speeds are slower too.

This may be unrelated but the firefox browser (IE works) displays this:

The proxy server is refusing connections
Firefox is configured to use a proxy server that is refusing connections.
* Check the proxy settings to make sure that they are correct.

* Contact your network administrator to make sure the proxy server is
working

I don't use any external firewalls and actually not even the one that came with SP2.(that I know of)

Thanks for the help

QX6800 with these top of the line GPUs putting out only 50 FPS? That's scary.

My current computer (will upgrade) has 3.0 p4, 512 ram and a pathetic X300. Yours seem to be in better condition. I ran Oblivion with reasonable FPS on low-med settings even with a number of mods installed. Of course, this is after some tweaking, optimizing, and overclock of X300. but still...

Basically, I am gonna keep using the old one but keep XP pristine (free from spyware and such) by not using XP on the new HD, only to play games on.

Hello

For the build so far, I have: E6700 2.66, 2 gb RAM 800mhz, and ATI X300.

Quite obviously, the bottleneck is the X300. I am getting a 8800gtx for a good price in June. Meanwhile, however, I need a mid-level card that could run Oblivion on mostly max settings, considering the CPU and RAM I have now. What would that card be? I do not want to spend over 200 dollars on it.

Another question regards buying a hard drive and setting up XP. I will get a new additional HD and want to install a fresh XP on that one, but I want to keep my older HD without reformatting (it already has XP). How would I do that?

The last question is: would running a DX9 game with a DX10 card on Vista be better looking than running it in XP?

Thanks

[QUOTE="shoenberg3"]Almost.. it almost seemed like it would have worked. When I did that on desktop hl icon (640x480) the screen turned black (as if it were starting) then it returned to "preparing to launch" and then, nothing... Hl2.exe started on task manager.mestizoman

"C:\Program Files\Valve\Steam\Steam.exe" -applaunch 220

try that for your target in properties

Strange, it was already set as such.

Delete the cache of HL2, but make sure to back up your .cfg files and your save games, you can also try to clean the windows register (obviously use an app for that).Gamartto
What app. do you recommend for the registry clean?
