@Pierce_Sparrow 3rd party support started to drop off around the N64 era because they chose to stick with cartridges, then the PS1 came out with discs and its appeal to an older crowd helped gain more support. By the time Nintendo moved to discs with the Gamecube much of the 3rd parties chose to ignore it (also where Nintendo is for kids started coming from) and this trend has continued to now, which is really sad to be honest. I agree Nintendo does need 3rd party support on their consoles but i don't entirely blame them for that reason. Look no further with how EA is treating Nintendo recently, they're pulling the same crap they did with the Dreamcast.

3rd party is a problem, no doubt, but there seems to be a bad mindset on both sides of the fence.

@Tauu All too true. We have lost so many studios now, all we have left are giants and indies when we had so much more last gen. We also had such large a range of games from small, medium, large and everything in between, now everyone chooses to play it safe due to sticking with triple A titles.

@emptycow Nintendo does make new IPs they often start small like pushmo did, and because of how loved it was it got a sequel. Nintendo had over 50 new IPs this last decade alone ranging from small, medium and big from gamecube, GBA, DS,3DS and Wii.

@chaosbrigade you can't add pokemon or zelda to this, skyward sword was released about 7-8 months ago and pokemon already has a new game coming to the DS at the end of this year.

"Nintendo hasn't had any new franchises or IP since Elvis died"

pikmin, gamecube, 2001. apparently pikmin doesn't count anymore despite the loud outcry for a new game in the series =/.
