@jayskoon93: that’s the one.

I think the registration process for a demo is just easier and cheaper.

Pretty sure “Of War” is a character from The Handmaiden’s Tale.

@xenomorphalien: It has never said “Only on Playstation” because even at launch it had a PC release and Sony doesn’t try to pass off games that are also on PC as exclusives.

@imajinn: Doesn’t matter anyway. Mistwalker isn’t making anything for console anytime in the near future.

No shit? Unless it’s a fighting game who spends all that money developing an arcade specific cabinet just to port it to console at launch? That would be stupid.

These aren’t realistic predictions, this is just the wishful thinking of a stupid child.

Like placing a bet, you make predictions with your head, not your heart.

@timothyss10: This attitude of “MS has no shortage of money so it’s ok when they spend large amounts of it on stupid shit that doesn’t pay off” has to stop.

Bad resource allocation is bad resource allocation. Plain and simple. It speaks volumes about a company.

Just because I have extra money to flush down the toilet doesn’t mean I should.

@milehighbossman: Yea, I don’t think he really understands what a publisher does himself. He apparently think they are just bank rolls.

@xTETRODOTOXINx: Not all publishers, I specifically said that, a good publisher allows as much creative freedom as can be afforded. You aren’t allowing for any distinction between internal development and external development which is your first mistake.

EA literally owns DICE, they are a subsidiary of EA, so yes, in this case EA has a huge influence and say on what DICE does with their games. This is an example of internal development in which the publisher genuinely plays a more active role in monitoring and critiquing the development process of a game.

Who do you think made the final decision to pull microtransactions from Battlefront 2? I’ll give you a hint, it wasn’t DICE.

Pushing microtransactions, loot boxes, paid updates and pretty much everything to do with marketing and monetizing the game is done by the publisher not the developer.

Publishers can also push developers to add extra features and modes to their games that the developers themselves may not be interested in at all.

A great example of this is the multiplayer in Spec Ops: The Line. The developer literally called the multiplayer mode a cancer on their game. 2K forced them to add it, it was part of the agreement for them publishing for Yaeger.

Publishers adding certain criteria that developers have to meet is literally the industry standard. They don’t just give them a bunch of money and resources and say, “GO NUTS!”

If this were the case, MS never would have cancelled Scalebound. That was a final decision made by a publisher.

You seem incredibly misinformed on what roles publishers actually play in the creation of a video game.

@Barighm: What are you talking about? Phil Spencer is Executive President Of Gaming for MS. Definitely not a figurehead position.

He is currently the head of the Xbox brand and leads the global creative and engineering teams responsible for gaming at Microsoft.

He is definitely in charge.
