@jack00: downgraded for early adopters, or upgraded for those willing to buy the newer consoles? Time will tell if all the sudden the games for the PS4 and XB1 get worse.

@wtf_666: Exactly, fanboys all get butthurt over the fastest, most powerful blah blah blah. Yes the extra power can be helpful, but in the end graphics is only one part of a game. You can have the most beautiful game, that is simply not fun to play. Now if there is a fun game, that also pushes technology and looks great that is a cherry on top.

@saturatedbutter: But what I think games2525 was saying was for the same exact hardware (well, close to the same) you get more bang for your buck in a console. PC's will always be more powerful, but when a dev develops for a console they know the exact specs every time and work on maximizing it, that is why in the past console games have always gotten graphically better as the generation went along.

@uchihasilver: Or you could play on PC, PS4, Xbox (and Nintendo) and just enjoy the games.

What is shocking is how everyone treats playing on PC the exact same thing as playing on a console. The are not the same thing, they do not have the same experiences (both good and bad). I am happy about the announcement as it allows me to purchase the game one time then I get to play it on PC or Console depending on my mood.

Either way this is a big win for MS. People will have to use Windows 10 - their OS. They were purchase games (at this point mostly 1st party games) - good for them. And since the games will sell better, more and more developers will want to participate in their play anywhere sandbox.

I will tell you, if they get 3rd party devs on board I will instantly buy all of my multi-plat games for the Xbox (instead of PS4, which I generally do) because I will have the ability to play on console or PC at not extra cost.

@berserker66666: Your comment is sad and delusional. I remember Xbox fanboys saying the same thing when they heard rumors that the PS4 was more powerful than the Xbox. Funny how people can't accept reality and somehow playing games all revolves around the most powerful console and not just enjoying games.

@Gamer_4_Fun: Maybe, but based on current numbers, your statement of "at best 1440p" would be wrong.

Sony for the most part strongly recommends 1080p of their PS4 games. The PS4 has been estimated to have 1.84 TF.

If scorpio does indeed at 6 tf that is 3.25 x faster than the PS4. They claim a memory bandwith of 320GB/s which is on par with PC GPU's that deliver 4k, so that wouldn't be an issue. Based on the sizzle real for scorpio DF suggests 12GB of RAM, which also should be enough for 4k. We have no clue on the CPU other than 8 cores, but one would guess it will be similar with the Neo (an upgraded / higher hertz version of the current one).

So could it do 4k? Maybe. Since 4K is 4x the pixels of 1080p it suggests the 6 TF console might be able to do it in the right situation (lower the detail, decrease fog etc.) My bet is most will be upscaled to 4k. However 1440p is roughly 1.7 times more pixels than 1080p, so a 6 TF console should easily surpass 1440p, and far from "at best".

@haze0986: chances are, since rumors are saying Sony is declaring the Neo as a 4k machine it would be dumb to not include a 4k blu-ray player. As far as the Scorpio goes, that hasn't been announced but it would be hard to image there would be a 4k blu-ray in the S but not in the higher end model. So yes, it would be a comfortable suggestion to say the 4k blu-ray will be in both.

Also if you would like an education, I doubt they are using a Sony blu-ray player (maybe, but I doubt it). As far as the blu-ray technology, Sony is only one of ten other members who share the royalties who is part of the Blu-ray Association, including MIT, Panasonic, Pioneer, Philips, LG, Sharp, Samsung, Hitachi, and Thomson.

@lostn: First off, the DF is talking about PC gaming and this is true. Why is this true, because general PC games, the developer doesn't want to take the time to program specifically for each core, hence for gaming it is better to get a CPU that is faster single core than slower multi-core (although this is advantage is slowly going away as programming tools become better at working with multi-core CPU's.

On the concept of consoles its a different story. Both Sony and MS consoles have mobile CPU's with 8 cores. The advantage is, every developer knows when the write code for a specific console, every single console for that type has the exact same # of cores. In order to max out the graphics in consoles, developers need to maximize the cores. This is simply a MUST because the console cores are using a mobile processor that doesn't have the grunt of a desktop CPU. This is one of the reason why consoles perform higher than an equal PC, because devs create code that is more specific for the console APU to try and maximize what they have.

IF this didn't help, why would Sony unlock the 7th core for Devs? Why wouldn't they have just kept it at 6 available cores to devs and called it a day?

@haze0986: You should read the article at DigitalFoundry, granted it is all speculation, but at least it is founded on education from a similiar GPU. Educate yourself a little bit before you spout crap. But if your are too lazy to read I'll sum it for you:

4k is possible, but 60 fps 4k probably not.

DF was able to get a constant 60fps but had to decrease resolution to 3264 X 1836 then upscaled to true 4k (and if you are wondering, yes that is higher than 1440). In their words, yes it is upscaled but it still looked amazing.

However all this is speculation because nothing is set in stone, but to make a firm statement about either console only proves that you are talking out of your butt.

You have no clue what the price will be for Neo or Scorpio, any thought otherwise is pure speculation.

@almatha: as someone who enjoys playing games on pc, and multiple consoles, PCs will always have the ability to be technically superior, just the way it works, BUT that doesn't mean its always better. Consoles offer a different experience, one that is different to the technically superior pc, yet equally enjoyable.
