Glad to hear it captures that "high seas adventure" feel. I really couldn't care less about it being Assassin's Creed, I just wanted a good pirate game.
Obviously, most games are better as games than movies. That's because most games have mediocre (at best) stories, but gameplay/interactivity makes up for that.
After 3 disappointing games, I personally think a pirate simulator is a nice change of pace. Naval combat was by far the best thing about AC3.
Considering how worn-out the bad story in AC is, I think calling it "Assassin's Creed" is mostly for marketing reasons, so I just think of it as "Ubisoft's open-world pirate game". I'm looking forward to it.
@VeeArSick @Blackbond Yeah it's mainstream, but I think it has a particular appeal for the weirdos. They get emotionally attached to a game or series and can spaz out from time to time.
Edit: I just read above and you said something similar, only more kindly put.
Personally, I don't want a politically-correct GTA game, but if this were any other storytelling medium (movies, TV, books), it would be normal for a critic to judge it from this angle. Obviously, a lot of gamers don't really consider videogames to be anything other than just games.
