It would be easier for you to open your xbox, find out which model your DVD drive is and then order the EXACT same one. After that you simply replace the chip from the old DVD drive to the new one and no need for any flashing.
Until you get the new DVD drive you can always try this fix, it's not permanent but it may last a while. Search google for " Xbox 360 Pot Calibration" Basically it tells you how to increase the lasers power. Good luck and well I wouldn't pay $100 to fix it. If you are good with computers you can do this and save a lot. A new DVD drive will cost you 20-30 bucks and this laser power fix is free.
Oh but of course you'd be voiding your warranty if you opened your xbox.
The D-pad is a lot better, whether you have it as a cross or the original disc, it's still better. The thumbsticks are tighter and are less likely to wobble in precise games although at first they were too tight, I had to work them in a little I guess you can say.
The controller looks really nice too, the pictures of it don't do it justice. Though personally if you have a working controller, I wouldn't go out and upgrade to this one. Yeah it's better but not really worth paying for a new controller. If you have the money though yeah do it.
