The definition of ownership, as it pertains to software and movies, is not changing at all. All those wonderful copyright notices that we tend ignore clearly state that you are not buying the actual game or movie, but only a license to play or watch. Sure, you buy physical media and so you have the right to do with that what you like. Lend it, burn it, shove it up your ass -- whatever. But you don't own the contents -- the intellectual property -- on the media and you don't have the right to do with it as you please. I'm pretty sure it's been like that for quite a while. What it comes down to is the enforcement of ownership rights, which now in this digital age is actually doable.
But if you relinquish the license you paid for, by uninstalling and keeping no copies, you certainly should be able to sell your game or give it away to a friend.
Wow. Thank god it's not for such meaningless things as love or justice, but revenge! Yes! Never saw that before in a game or movie. And how does ducking down on one side of your horse make the animal with your leg draped over it invisible? Also, I think crawling along the rocky ground like at 5:52 would still make enough noise to get noticed by the sentry 2 meters away.
A bit melodramatic there, Tom. :-D Wanna bet that in a year, when a bunch of PS4s have been sold, Sony implements similar draconian policies? It makes sense to reassure your customers prior to release, but I think the business paradigm has changed and Sony will follow suit at some point. And besides that, Sony also has restrictions on their hardware. For example, I had a PSP, purchased in Europe, and I couldn't play games or movies from North America, where I spent almost every summer for many years. I couldn't bypass the region lock even with custom firmware. To me, that is an unnecessary restriction on a portable device. Anyway, Sony, like Microsoft, is a huge corporation and their primary objective is profit. Let's see how consumer friendly Sony remains after selling 100 million units.
@derceto Agreed. I like Gamespot a lot and it's because of the people working there. They are a really cool bunch of people. Unfortunately that xbox joke fell flat, in my opinion, but I can't say I could have come up with anything better.
