Not entirely sure why execs should be worrying if people have the basic education/knowledge of something as relevant as WWI when developing a war game. Even people who would be lacking basic knowledge in history like to play war games. If anything it might make people more interested in educating themselves about WWI (yes I know that's a stretch.)
TL;DR - How does a setting that people may not be familiar with (and its WWI and you ****ing should be) differ from a completely made up setting such as all the fantasy/sci-fi or modern day shooters flooding the market? This statement just shows the lack of basic common sense and reasoning execs at EA have.
@Ovirew: It's no different than looking back at my mullet haircut in the late 80s and laughing at how ridiculous it was. Nostalgia is great and all, but sometimes you need to remember things for what they really were.
FF was great when I was like 12 or 13. It wasn't until later that I realized the game was nothing more than a bunch of metrosexuals whining, complaining and combing their hair. The latest installment looking like something straight out of a L'oreal commercial. I mean my local mall even has Prada AD's on the wall with the character Lightning in them.
It only got worse when the cringe worthy voice acting was introduced. I found myself having to turn the volume down on my TV any time a cutscene came on during whichever FF had lighting in it, so my girlfriend wasn't thinking I was playing a game made for 13 year old girls. Then I remembered what FF 10-2 was and realized I was playing a game made for 13 year old girls.
I used to rag on about how "things have changed" and "the series isn't the same anymore" until I looked back at the FF 6 character art and saw it was all half naked dudes in drag who looked like they were straight out of a really bad 80s hair metal band.
These games are the Japanese boy bands of video games. If that's your thing all the power to you.
EDIT: This screen name was made about the same time when I thought the series was amazing so that should give you an idea of the mental state/capacity someone who loves these games should probably be at.
Not trying to repeat what everyone else is saying about Sam's voice, but the character is WAY off with Eric Johnson. Sam looks 50 and sounds like he's 20, it just doesn't sound right AT ALL. He looks pretty bad too...
I like Hayter as snake and all but lets honest that his voice is a BIT over the top. Playing MGS4 I couldn't help but chuckle half the time. I think this is going to be a nice way to continue the series with Big Boss using Kiefer. Now I'm actually excited a bit to play the game where as before I couldn't really care less.
